Possibly, but the number of players would still need to be limited. Imagine if the Force beat the Crusaders with Dan Carter playing for the Force and Pocock playing for the Crusaders. I wouldn't know who to cheer for (not that I cheer for the Force all that often).

That being said, there is a Marquree player limit of one per team. However, I think NZ and Australia should certainly do some sort of deal for that. Would be stupid not to do so. Braid should be playing for the All Black's this year, and not waiting for next year. Unless his contract ends on the 29th of May?

Andrew (Shaw) is still in the Reds Academy and playing for Brothers who his dad is still the Chairman of. He is still training his guts out to make the senior squad but is on the outer with Link becasue of the penalties he gave away against the the Tahs in round 1.

they were pretty silly penalties, it would have been well known to him that he cant do that anymore

however, i think it would be a bit rough to keep him on the outer purely because of that

I think its because of the constant penalties he continues to give away in Premier Rugby. I lie not and say, that whenever I go and watch Brothers, he is the most penalized player on the park say 2 out of 3 times. There's no way Shaw will get a run with the Reds, when there is Simmons, Byrnes and Humphries, as well as Quirk and Gill coming into the fray next year. Although they are not specialist front rowers, would the idea of putting Higgers in the 2nd row if injuries persist throughout the 2011 season as Byrnes will be at the Rebels.

Cannot believe the Reds have signed Gill instead of Shaw - one is a man, big, agressive, tough and uncompromising and the other is a kid, small, also agressive, tough and uncompromising (both so far against schoolboys) Can't blame young Shaw pissing off - will be the Reds loss - my opinion only

interesting that Dom Shipperley is playing 13 for Brothers, he is a rather solid lad, maybe the Reds have identified him as a centre for 2011

Gill is an openside, Shaw isn't. It has taken a while to realize this but know the coaching staffs of both the Reds and Filth (hence they have been trying and failing with a third grader at 7) have.

academy players signed for next year; Gill, Quirk, Shipperley, Situati, Shatz

academy players getting game time; Tapuai, Shaw, Slipper

academy players dominating premiere rugby or in the U20s; Albert Anae, Aidan Toua, Jono Lance.

It is possible that almost the entire academy will be in the senior squad next year. Who will be getting the boot?

Tasi appears to be gone. Blair is gone. Braid is gone. Byrnes. Dayna. Hardman. Kingi. Kennedy. Weekes. Morgan?

I doubt the Reds have realised that. Shaw to play openside for the Reds this week.

With Weeks going and Kennedy looking to be on the outer is there any chance that David Feao will be picked up by the Reds Academy next year? He is in his second year playing Premier in a team that made the GF last year. Is a dominant ball runner and his scrummaging is improving from what I have heard. I said on the U20 thread that I was surprised that he didn't make that team.

His old man played for Tonga at the 87 RWC before Souths arranged for him to move to Brisbane. I have had a bit to do with the kid a few years ago and think he would thrive in an academy environment.

Thats becasue he was SUCH a good schoolboy player and got put into the senior squad at 17. Has had a horrible run of injuries - still has a massive future in front of him if he can stay on the paddock.

Lee Grant

John Eales (66)
Good player and a nice young man who I met with family members in Canberra when he played for Qld Schools and at Hunters Hill for Oz Schools in 2007.

I kept looking for reports of his progress since then but injuries intervened, including the knee reconstruction last year.

As I wrote in the U20 thread: I hope the tournament helps to re-launch his career. He certainly knew how to weave his way through opponents at the schools level and our game needs more of that.

Yeh I remember him playing in the arc, and got excited, but haven't really heard much of him since.

Mmmmm. Interesting year for the Reds. The loss to the Tahs could prove costly. Great effort from the pack yet Genia and Quade keep things moving.

I hope this means the end of Gitts yet Quade still can be dodgy when they rush up and deny him the pass. The Brumbies targeted him last week. May be different with Berrick at twelve who as we know is also a handy 10. Options.....

I remember playing against wynumm in subbies. Their 10 was carving us. Down 22 nil after 20. From outside centre I simply sprinted to get between him and his next man 3 or 4 times and cut off his 1st option every time. Our 10 then smashed him. Same happened to Quade against the Brumbies last week. Link will sort this I'm sure.

BTW.. The 10 ( Who was their only star ) went quiet and we lost 22-10.
