If you guys thought Meehan was bad, I'd be keen to know how you rate Frisby at the moment. Talk about dire box kicks! WTF!? Frisby's were terrible! I'd rate Rob Simmons to probably box kick better.
Ha, not very highly either. Scrumhalf is a real problem across Australia at the moment. Less is more, as Aaron Smith continues to show.

well i will respectfully disagree about Meehan, he did overdo the attacking kicks on Saturday, but of all the young half backs i think he has the best overall skill set, pass, run and kick. he needs to shut about stuff happening at the breakdown and let the Ref do his job.

Ditto re Frisbey. I'm not enthusiastic about box kicking, but I felt he had a real impact on the game. Driving the forwards, pulling in Hunt, working with Mac. Some good runs too, including a try.

I actually don't mind Frisby, and think he has started to grow into his role after years in the shadow of a certain former Reds 9.

What I do like about Frisby is his ability to "link" the attacking line and keep the momentum going. He is pretty good at sniffing gaps to put guys into, but ball handling usually kills those chances by the piggies.

And he has some serious toe, as per his try on the weekend.

As for the box kicking, I have always said that is a result of either a lack of better options (like only seeing a flat stagnant line) or a lack of confidence. Or probably both.

There is a time for quick ball (when attacking in waves and the opposition is on the back foot) and a time for slower more considered ball (such as pick and go 5 metres or less out from the line).

Frisby gets that. Meehan doesn't. Yet.

Yes, I probably should have been clearer. I was aware he had played some Rugby (wasn't sure how much and what format of the game or what position) but to me it didn't look recent or at any high level. My main point being that he looks completely out of his depth/comfort zone. It surprises me to hear he played lock as one of the things that stands out is watching him join a ruck. It's the most awkward looking thing I've seen on a Rugby pitch in a while.
Whatever his past, he has a lot to learn and I hope he's a quick learner!

Just like almost any other lock in Aus rugby.;)

So the Rebels only used 17 players on Saturday night, which would have been due mainly to close match. But that can't help the weariness of players due to the travel. Hopefully that doesn't come back to bite us on Saturday.

I realise this is meant to be a joke but, really? Carter, Arnold, Skelton, Douglas, Simmons, Neville, Jones, S Mafi and Coleman to name a few? There are many many many many things that the giraffes do that may look awkward (like running and giving post match interviews) but generally hitting rucks and shifting bodies is not one of them.

they probably thought that a win was the most important thing. Hagan was out due to a virus, Ellison not quite right, both should be fit, possibly Fuglistaller available as well, the backs ? well they can be right after a massage and a good lie down. Ah Nau hasn't played many minutes, nor has Cummins. i think they will have enough in the tank and some relatively fresh legs in the XV and on the bench, well here's hoping.

You are kidding yourself

First half poor but improved lsater

Nope, his scrummaging was pretty good bar one scrum where the Rebels got the early shove on..

Actually for a bloke on debut against a seasoned and all-wallaby front row he did very bloody good..

Rebels have the 3rd best scrum in Australia and would have been licking their lips at the prospect of lining up against a hooker and prop who only have a handful of caps between them.

Daley is still the better scrummager, contrary to popular opinion on here his scrummaging this year has been pretty dam good, unfortunately for him he looks to be gone for the season so Sef will be stepping up until Slippers return.

Agree that Sef should be behind Slipper (and probably ahead of Dales) and said so before the game. I also said the kid will be much better for the experience. I'm sure he will improve quite markedly when he gets to play the last 20 minutes against tyhe reserve front rowers. His confidence will grow and grow. Chucked in too early can be damaging for a young front rower. ( re Tongan Thor)

Dales is now in a bad place. Out for the season and in contract negotiations. I expect he will not be re-signed for a few reasons.
1. He has never been dominant at LHP and his scrummaging (for some reason or other) has been lacking since he joined the Reds as a youngster. He has the body shape but just doesn't seem to have that "something" that makes OK props into very good props. The attribute that has saved him in the past has been his work around the field. This year I think his scrummaging improved but the other aspect or strength to his game, suffered.
2. He has copped lots of injuries and they seem to be increasing. Did he play games last year ? If so, not many.
3. The youngsters: Sef and others are starting to come through. They will be less costly and bring more potential. That has to be the reason the Reds refused to re-sign Greg Holmes - crazy on that score.
4. RG was a supporter of the bloke and he is gone.

Saying all of that Dales has been a survivor and will recover from this injury. Must be bloody frustrating for him though.

Agree Tex, I thought Smith did pretty well against Holmes, and thought he almost bested him on a couple of occasional early on, but Reds gained ascendancy as the match wore on..

The surface at AAMI disrupted a a few of the scrums, couldn't believe how easily it was getting ripped up... I found it a little concerning given it is hosting a test match this year

Box kicks can be a devastatingly effective weapon, but only if they are perfectly weighted and pinpoint accurate. Aaron Smith is pretty good at it.

That's the thing, it's as though our half backs see Aaron Smith or Pete Stringer executing it effectively then imitate it to devastatingly bad effect.

Frisby, for all his admirable athleticism, was fucking woeful with his kicking from the ruck. Meehan at least executes Genia's stab kick behind the blindside winger for touch pretty well.
