G'day gents. Might be worth noting that pollies generally spend Fridays in their electorate offices attending to constituent issues.

It would not hurt at all if John Eren (Minister for Sport) received a couple calls, all positive in nature and intent, to ask what he is doing to retain a strong rugby presence in the city/state, and to emphasise the importance of the Rebels to sport and Melbourne's status as an international rugby city.

You'd be surprised at the extent to which calls from constituents (i.e. implied and real political pressure) can influence the thinking of Ministers and their advisors.

Is it just me, or is anyone else struggling to give a flying fuck about the Wallabies RC/Bledisloe/June Tests/RWC19 talks, until the Super Rugby debacle is resolved?

And honestly, if the Rebels are chopped, I'm half a chance to not give a fuck about the Wallabies full time.

agreed, i'm not even bothering to go to the Fiji Test, just not that interested at the moment. i had very high hopes of continuing improvement in and success for the Rebels midway through last year. really disappointed.

Yeah, I am going too. Was in two minds but figured if Melbourne don't show and we lose the Rebels, we could end up with less Rugby than before the Rebels.

Fiji (although far from a super power) have sent as good of a squad as they have for a mid year test in a long time. Considering they all don't pull out in the coming weeks. Tuisova and Nadolo would be in the Wallabies squad if not first choice. A few solid players around them, with a sprinkling of extreme averagness at 10.

Brilliant, i am even looking to buy tickets for the mid week breakfast. $99 a ticket. Have a few mates keen to jump on this. Starts at 7am and on Flinders so i can waltz to the office after.

I am going to be in Fiji the week after so am hoping to catch a local match there the week after, so that should get me my Super Rugby break live rugby fix.

The Fiji test aside (I got tickets before the current shitfight and will be going), I was more interested in my reaction to the RWC19 pool draw last night; I found myself completely uninterested given the current mood.

I briefly tried to watch the live feed, but it kept on dropping out. Gave up after 2attempts.

I only checked when someone at Rugby training asked if I knew what pool was Australia in. Didn't really go out of my way to check it.

Subconsciously, the whole chop/cut fuck up would contribute towards my apathy for checking the draw.

I'm going to the Fiji test but I'm not that excited about it TBH.

I can even understand why people have stopped going to Rebels games, depressing and exhausting is a good description.

It might sound petty but, if it turns out the the Rebels, and by extension the Rising and the VRU, are shafted by the ARU there is no way I'll be supporting any other Aussie teams - including the Wallabies. I'll probably support Japan as I already own a few Japan Rugby tee shirts

In years of ARU screw ups, I've never put on my Wallabies jersey before a test match and thought that what I'm doing is cheering on Bill Pulver or John O'Neill or anyone else from head office.

The teams will always be about the players.

You're a good egg BH, but what do you and the ARU think is going to happen here? Do they think we are all going to have a period of quiet grieving, then start supporting another Super Rugby team? Some may, but geez they will be the minority.

I used to follow the Reds before the Rebels came into being, simply because I once lived in Qld and they were the closest to "my" team, but I assure you - if the Rebels fold, there is no going back to the Reds, or any other team. They don't represent me any more than another team except the Tahs represent you.

Dewar Shield? Maybe occasionally, but I'm not seriously invested in any particular team.

The bigger picture is the Wallabies. I agree with you that not once have I ever put on the Gold thinking it was anything other than representing my country, but right now, the bitterness I will feel should the Rebels disappear will absolutely flow onto my Wallabies experience. Why follow the Wallabies when I have zero investment in the players?

Not sure there is any coming back from that. Hard to know for sure until it happens (or doesn't happen), but don't make the mistake of thinking all Vic rugby supporters will simply transfer allegiance, to any team in Oz, including the Wallabies.

Still, we will see.

Yep, I won't be picking another Super Rugby team as my "rebound team". I support the Rebels because I feel connected to them. I simply can't do that with another team if we lose the Rebs. I'd still watch Super Rugby, but I reckon I would avoid it for a while as it would be a reminder of what was and now isn't.

I've had these jokers take away my team twice. I haven't forgotten how it felt to see the huge momentum we had dissipate when the Force won in 2004, with no support from HQ afterwards, or to have a great season in the ARC only for it to fold and the Rebels be publicly blamed for it.

I'm sick of this amazing community we have in Victoria being the whipping boys for incompetence in St Leonards. This feeling has been heightened by this rubbish prevailing narrative that the Rebels are a bunch of privileged rich kids who dare to defend themselves against the perfectly-run and completely sustainable community franchise in Perth.

If the Rebels go, I'm done. Completely. This game doesn't deserve Victoria.

Well said Stu . I know you've been there right from the start and to me you have always represented everything that's good about Vic Rugby and I agree this rubbish about the lack of spirit in Vic Rugby circles just because the Rebs are privately owned is misplaced and downright offensive.
This club has dramatically enhanced the game of Rugby in the state and has lifted the standards of local competitions at all levels since inception.
As for future support of the Wobs , at the moment sadly I feel about done .
Hell im far from proud of the fact that I look for the results of the other Oz Super teams each week hoping they've been belted .
I can't see my views changing irrespective of what happens to the Rebs unless there is significant change at ARU level and not just in personnel but attitude
They have shown complete disdain for the Rugby public of this country with the ham fisted way they have approached this issue and I refuse to put one dollar of my hard earned in their pocket
