Our injury list is bad, but the Force are nearly as bad:

Dane Haylett-Petty (hamstring), Ben McCalman (shoulder), Adam Coleman (calf), Richie Arnold (calf), Chance Peni (groin), Ryan Louwrens (knee), Luke Morahan (cheekbone), Jermaine Ainsley (knee), Angus Cottrell (knee), Matt Philip (foot) and Michael Ruru (ankle) are all unavailable at present, though Coleman and Arnold are a chance to return this weekend.

Maybe it is just bad luck - or do we both just have poor S & C?

It is pretty interesting, I mean, surely with the AFL teams in both states we should have access to some pretty good S & C. I wonder where the disconnect lies.

Without seeing the full article he's right though isn't he? Will Miller for example? That teenage lock?

Coach McGahan has now stated he has no confidence in his boys:

- what a disgrace he is and how bad would those players feel knowing he doesn't want them?

There are guys playing out of position and guys called from outside of the squad. I think you're reaching.

Still, even myself who does not buy into the hysteria thinks it's time for TT to be let go (at the season's end, for a variety of reasons).

Sadly, we'd ideally start the process of looking for candidates on the DL very soon but the ARU's process of culling a team simply does not allow for that. My guess is a current assistant coach gets installed.

If we are to get a new coach, we should look no further than Matty Taylor. Hes been a part of the turn around at Glasgow and Scotland, plus was Defensive coach at the Reds in 2011. Everywhere he has been there has been a marked improvement in performance.

As for assistant coaches, another idea that sprung to my mind would be perhaps offering Ruan Pienaar a player/coach role. He's leaving Ulster seasons end, and although we wouldn't be able to offer the cash French rugby could, perhaps we could offer something more valuable long term, in a coaching gig? Plus would solve short term scrum half issues and although he's a foreign player, he is a class foreign player. Just a thought?????

yes thats true, but most management even on a short tour generally take three hookers and three halfbacks, unless its easy to get one on short notice, or have a back up plan in case of this exact scenario, so who was the dedicated reserve half ? Miller ? Fainga'a ? Debreczini ? Volavola ? because the team certainly didn't seem to know.

in the time he has been in Melbourne, under TT's watchful eye the Rebels made good strides in the first season and a half, but their last 15 -16 games have been well below what one would expect from a professional team. the individual and group skills have regressed, the attack is beyond poor, they look disinterested and disorganised. whatever the malaise the head coach is responsible and all we hear from him are excuses. personally i'm staggered he hasn't been fired, perhaps another terrific ARU contract that's unbreakable !

While i'm at it, another player we should be looking at to improve our locking stocks is Peter Kimlin. His team has just been relegated to ProD2. Not a superstar, but a solid super rugby quality player. Can cover lock and no.6 (although i do believe hes played mostly at 6). If we can get some fit locks, namely Jeffries back on the paddock, would be a great player to bring off the bench. At 31 might be looking to move back to Aus with family and settle down. Not going to play for Aus, so can pick up extra cash playing in Japan if that interests him.

And I imagine after being tied up in a pretty terrible situation over there, he's probably keen to get out.

Yeah, I don't know if I agree with your interpretation. I'm no TT supporter but I think his comment is valid, in this case. If there were other options, some of the players from last week would be dropped. That's fair enough.

Any coach in any sport would want competition for spots. If someone is out of form they can be replaced. At the moment he doesn't have that luxury because he is scratching around trying to find enough blokes to make a side.

However,

Despite the long list of unavailable players, we still had a decent enough side last week. Not taking a third scrummie and hooker was an act of pig-headed, stupidity. That's down to TT.

If the players drop their heads half way through and don't know what they are supposed to be doing anyway, that's on him as well.

The non-existent game plan is the biggest issue for me. If the plan is to kick for territory then pressure for a penalty it's a shit plan and we are no good at it. It's also not the sort of game that is going to get any more people paying for seats at AAMI Park. ATM, I reckon the aim is to get out there and not lose by too much. That's all down to Tony as well.

A decent pair of mongrel second rowers and a good halfs pairing will make a massive difference but only if we have a coach that can put together a plan that takes advantage of the relative strengths of the players and that the players take ownership of. That bit is down to Coxy and his mates.
