4 of our 6 remaining opponents are Australian opposition.

Plus we play a Jaguares side on tour.

Saving the season is impossible, but there's a little bit of respect left to be won, given we've got games against all 4 sides.

With McMahon, Timani, and Colby slowly returning to the squad, that isn't an unachievable task.

Some of the schools have pretty good level 3 coaches - maybe Coach McGahan could drop by a school game and get some coaching tips - (Training Tuesday and Thursday 3.30-5.00 in case you are reading this Tony)
Coach McGahan is one of the better coaches to coach schools rugby in Brisbane in the last 10-20 years.

Obviously he hasn't worked out, but I think shitting on a guy in a tough coaching situation like coaching the Rebels (particularly this year), just makes you look like sort of a prick.

I know your views. But, he's passed multiple interviews (and been kept around) by people/organisations who know more about rugby than both of us. In fact the information we have is extraordinarily peripheral.

Your choices as a fan are to have logical viewpoints (alright coach that never made much of a tough situation) or to be the idiot shouting alarmist nonsense.

While i'm at it, another player we should be looking at to improve our locking stocks is Peter Kimlin. His team has just been relegated to ProD2. Not a superstar, but a solid super rugby quality player. Can cover lock and no.6 (although i do believe hes played mostly at 6). If we can get some fit locks, namely Jeffries back on the paddock, would be a great player to bring off the bench. At 31 might be looking to move back to Aus with family and settle down. Not going to play for Aus, so can pick up extra cash playing in Japan if that interests him.

Mostly played lock at the Brumbies but captained the side from No 8 and was best on ground in the win against the BI Lions. Would be a valuable pick up for any of the Super Rugby sides.

McGahan has played ugly Rugby and made objectively poor and biased selection/recruitment policies from day dot.

When we looked to be building a strong culture, and had some results to back it up, I was happy to let it be.

But we went backwards last year, and collapsed entirely this year. There's no innovation, no confidence, no willingness to change what could be changed (until the Kings game, all of our halfs were available for virtually every game, plenty of opportunities for those underperformers to go).

Thanks for your service Tony, but survival or no survival, I'm hoping for a 2018 without McGahan.

I'm not going to apologise for being a prick then, this "tough coaching situation" is in a large part due to his lousy s & c methods and in part due to his lousy game strategies and in part due to his petty benching of players who he has the shits with at times and as head coach he should be accountable.

List management - Baden Stephenson
Strength and Conditioning - site says Shane Lehane, but I feel like it's someone else

"Benching players he has the shits with" - Who? When? Do you think there were not other reasons that was the case?

I'm not pro-McGahan, but some fact-based opinions would be great.

I think the benching players comment is around a perceived feeling when a player announces they are leaving they fall out of favour and are punished by being benched or omitted. It did feel that way with Pyle and Neville, but Jones wasn't so draw your own conclusions there.

I've never been a big fan of sacking the coach if a team is doing poorly (more than one person responsible for performance), but it is like the CEO of a company. They are the leader and if the company is underperforming the buck has to stop somewhere.

Likewise, the head coach is responsible for overall performance and unfortunately that sometimes means they have to take the fall.

Should McGahan go? Dunno, but something has to give.

a few facts, worst line out in super, fewest points scored, worst points differential ever, least tries in super, least run metres, one win and a draw this year, conceding on average nearly 40 points per game, and there is more if i could be bothered finding it. three wins and a draw in our last 16 games.

some very, very strange selections. even on saturday, why would you use a 17 year old second row forward as your reserve back rower, no matter how talented he is or how good he might become, when there is an experienced player (Schatz) available. from people behind the scenes i'm told he is a petty, vindictive individual and some of the player exclusions Pyle, Neville and Meehan would seem to back that up. i have not once heard him take personal responsibility for the results.

Amirite, they actually have some pretty reasonable cattle, but not only has TT failed to improve them he's not even getting out of them what they are capable of. he has been an abject failure as head coach.

Didn't mind Ha'angana over Schatz, the latter has been nothing short of invisible.

Agree with that otherwise.

Just a quick precursor: I accept the injury problems, and clearly there is some bad luck involved, but doesn't the S&C dude report to the Head Coach?

Anyway, even if all of those stats above (thanks swingpass, that didn't fucking depress me much!) were not so blindingly obvious, we have clearly taken an ENORMOUS step back this year, in watchability and critically, ladder position.

After a number of years, we are now worse off than before Tony arrived.

That alone is enough to get a coach from any other team and code marched off the premises.

The fact that he is still here makes me worry. Maybe we are for the chop so why bother replacing him? Then again, the assists could look after things till the last game too.

I think it's ENTIRELY to do with the current shenanigans with chopping a team. If there is even a sniff on instability, the ARU bloodhounds will be right onto it.
