Was seen on the cooking challenge from a couple ofdays ago. I suspect ankleinjury happened very recently possibly a 7/1 bench or JD as back up

Volavola will be cover for 9 as well if BM is not in SA. JD would be on the bench with JGB.

NS being injured is a shame, but a blessing to have a captain on the field. His just not able to perform both his duties as 9 and captain at the same time.

It's why not to many 9's have been captains in professional rugby, Genia and Gregan are the only ones to really pull it off.

Just realised he didn't, how are the Reds safe from the chop. Have been crap since 2013 (Did not notice just how bad). The Rebels have 7 more wins over the 2015,16 seasons.
I'd argue that Laidlaw has been more successful than Genia, and Laidlaw hasn't had ludicrous amounts of success for either Gloucester or Scotland.

Oh great, so what, Snowden and who?

Either they're flying Benny over real fucking quick, Sione will start on the bench, or Craig McGrath will play one last game at scrumhalf.

Suppose that one way to swap the skipper.

Congrats to Colby.

I'm never going to admit to be an expert in rugby but I have never seen a team in any sport where
- there is the level of out of game injuries that the Rebels have had over the past 2 years
- so many players appear to have gone backwards in skills and ability. Is there any player in the team who is better than they were when they started in the team. Stirzaker and Debracini were touted as being potential wallabies when they started.

Any one with more experience / knowledge have thoughts on what is happening on this.

I raised this around posts 50 and this was the reply:
Hodge, Timani, McMahon, Naivalu
I agree with you JP, the level of injuries is ridiculous - even before the season began - note to strength and 'conditioning' coach as well as injuries during the season arising from training sessions - and then there is skill development issue - not enough in my opinion. But I think there is an underlying reason and it has been raised before, but pretty quickly silenced, that the boys don't respect their coach - who is divisive little p**9k and if they do his set moves their game is pedestrian, and if they try any flair they get benched.

surely the coach has to go now. whether he devises the game plan or not he must take responsibility.

the current attacking structure (i use the word loosely, because there plainly isn't one) is frightful. last week against 14 men for a large part of the game (> 50 mins) the couldn't conjure a try, last night against a team that has consistently given up > 30 points per game, despite having about 70% possession and territory in the first half, multiple 7+ phases and line breaks, couldnt get anywhere near scoring a try. the Rebels have two great finishers, a centre (English) that is making multiple half breaks every week and all they come up with is a penalty. WTF. i counted a 15 phase possession last night that lost 5 metres. it is ponderously slow, predictable and 10 m behind the gain line, the forwards get the ball standing still, often on their own and often as a surprise! losing the half didnt help, but seriously, these guys get PAID to do this stuff.

so i was told by an inside birdie that the first half against the Tahs was a plan devised by the assistants, 3 tries, the second after a TT spray at the 1/2 consisted of kick for territory and defend.

i certainly dont think we should start a Rebels 2018 thread, it would be pointless even if they stay in the competition.

Hodge is no better than when he started other than perhaps better at kicking for goal.

I have no idea if McMahon is any better as he hasn't played yet.

Timani - yeah, he has probably improved.

Sefa - not sure. He hardly sees the ball these days.

So, I'd say there might be 1 or 2 players who have improved and a hell of a lot who have gone significantly backwards.

That first half against the Tahs was awesome. Exciting and productive rugby. Exactly what we would love to see.

I know that we have had our best seasons with TT but there is no structure, there is no plan and there is no accountability for the poor play and performances.

And I don't know why the Rebels ever kick the $&*#ing ball. All that happens is that we lose possession and gain a couple of meters. I remember one game when the whole crowd was screaming at the team to stop kicking the bloody ball away. For some reason, the team listened and then (if I recall correctly) came away with the win.

Apparently there was supposed to be a review after the poor start to the season. It would be good to see some kind of idea of what, if anything is planned.

The game you mentioned was v the Brumbies in 2014 at AAMI Park. Yes, Jason Woodward kept kicking and when he stopped doing that (at the request of the crowd) and they ran with it, they got results (and won too).

I remember that match like it was yesterday. Woody, and I think Gus Roberts, were consistently booting it away?

Ah, Jason Woodward. My number one player that I wish we had kept. Maybe he can come back now that Bristol is being relegated. Of course, his "you aren't going to have any idea how to plan against what I am going to do because I have no idea what it is either" playing style isn't exactly consistent with the playing style of the coach.
