Queensland Reds 2025

Werchon is talent. The speed of the attack has gone through the roof since he came on. Directing his team well.

Seems a bit like near enough is good enough for this ref, could've sworn that was held up

i missed the first 20, but from what I saw looked like a quick, game..

Dre and Frankie ran it hard into collision quite frequently, were met by a forward on most occasions.. might want to choose those lines a bit better in the future :p

I was impressed by Aubrey, he showed a lot on attack I thought, definitely lifted his involvement and work rates since previous games for the Reds

I thought Aubrey looked very sharp in the game today. Bounced out of a few tackles and showed good speed.

Still has a few in front of him I suspect but given he’s only 21 hopefully he can start really pressing for a spot this year.

Yeah I was surprised at how strong he's become in contact. He's certainly put some size onto his frame, so the gym time has paid off for him. Agree with it being a bit early for him but these tours will benefit guys like him the most!

IMO he's better than Kalani. More threatening to the defence at least.

Kalani is a dummy half type 9. Safe but never going to be a focal point. Having said that he had some very good games towards the back end of last year for the Reds.

Can take guys like him a few more years to naturally get the strength and grown man size. Could be a good thing when you maintain the speed and elusiveness because your body hasn't been lumped with 10kg on a 18yr old frame not ready for it.

Smith over Canham or at least Blyth for me. Flook at 13 daugunu on the wing and anderson at 23

We need more work horse players in attack with our more dynamic back row hence smith.

Flook is a gun defender and can't cover fullback, he'll plug any holes Ryan or Daugunu might have in them being better attacking then defending players.

Phillipo was the wallabies best when he was playing on the wing - make his job simple

Anderson has a lot more versatility and hasn't massively impressed IMO

Looks like Floyd Aubrey is making the jump to league with Souths Logan Magpies:

Pretty unexpected after he just featured in the Japan tour, but given it's not a full NRL contract it probably suggests he wasn't valued to highly at the Reds. Probably also a flow on from the post Rebels player movements. I know plenty of people like Aubrey and he definitely has potential, but for mine he's really struggled to take the next step, particularly in terms of accuracy, consistency and discipline. Still, I would've much rather seen him in 7s or Japan for a stint than heading to league. Definitely stings a bit to lose Grealy, Annan and Aubrey all in one go.

Will make for an interesting team announcement to come next week, have to imagine Heremaia Murray is a certainty now.

That's a very surprising move, had expected him to be signed. So what's the Queensland outside backs looking likely to be now?

Yeah it’s a shame he just hasn’t clicked into that next gear has he. I remember seeing him at an SLC vs Ash 1st XV game a few years back and he absolutely tore it up before having to go off injured. One of those schoolboy prodigies who battle a bit at the next level.

Daugunu, Vunivalu*, Anderson, Ryan, Campbell and Mason Gordon all signed with Heremaia Murray looking likely and Flook covering from centre. Not lacking without Aubrey, though I'd like another fullback option. I wouldn't be surprised to see McLaughlin-Phillips get some game time there going forward.

Probably a starting back 3 of Daugunu, Ryan and Campbell, though I Anderson will be pushing for a shot and they might look to manage Ryan's game time across the season.

*Rumours are swirling that there's league interest in buying Vunivalu out of his contract. If they're willing to pay I imagine RA and the Reds will let him go, but it's hard to know how likely it is at this stage.

Also have Will McCullough been brought up from academy to top squad

*Rumours from where? His agent?

The demise of the Rebels is an utter fuck-up. In this case taking a player that maybe could have worked harder but maybe could have used more time. Go well in mungo, Floyd.
