*Rumours from where? His agent?

The demise of the Rebels is an utter fuck-up. In this case taking a player that maybe could have worked harder but maybe could have used more time. Go well in mungo, Floyd.

Which is why we need more teams not fewer teams for our players to develop and show their talent.

From all over the place:

Hard to know if they'll come to anything but I wouldn't be surprised if they let him go - he's not really in the best 23 for the Reds as it stands, though may push in if they're looking for more size. Really fell of this year after a good start to the season and has entirely dropped out of wallabies contention, so if it saves them some money I can't see RA or the Reds standing in the way of him wanting to leave.

Think his pay packet is 300k-400k from last memory.

NRL might be out of equation because teams kind of set. Would he really take less money?

I suspect he hangs around for super rugby. Might play his way back into wallabies mixer but if not early release so he’s not just hanging around playing club rugby

300k with complimentary Reds training kit, Ballymore gym access with physios, and trips to fun destinations like Tonga.

And all you have to do is cop the occasional sideline spray from the Colts 3 peanut gallery.

My man is living the dream.

Another talent walking out of the Reds after a lot of $$$$ and effort put into him. When will the Reds find some people that can run the back office properly.

Ay? The Reds have easily had the most consistent and fruitful developmental pathway over the last 5 or so years, with very few young guys looking for greener pastures. The movements this year are mostly due to a glut in the market following the Rebels situation.

In saying that, Aubrey's been in the system for a pretty long time now and hasn't seemed to make the same step up as his peers. It was probably time for a change.

No knowledge at all seems like a pretty accurate username ;)

Yeah - I have seen Aubrey play more than most here I reckon, being a GPS man. I never really saw the Super Rugby potential and Ive said this a lot.

Aubrey was a schoolboy star and he had NRL teams chomping at the bit to sign him. He was definitely signed as a project player and it goes to show as he's now going to the Intrust Super Cup and not directly to a NRL team.

Wonder if the timing of the Aubrey decision came down to the decision to sign Mason, competing for the same contract maybe
Makes sense given the departures we've had this year. Losing James and Lawson means we need a 3rd option at Fly Half. Given Mason will be around the 23 squad and can cover both 15 and 10, it'll make him more useful to the team than Aubrey who has been played out wide only.

Keep drinkin the Coolaid there LeCheese.

Fruitful? So the cupboard is full of trophies? The wallabies are full of Reds (more Waratahs than Reds TBH)? Other teams fear playing them?

All the Reds have become is a transit lounge for Schoolboy super stars to grow a little before heading for greener pastures.

Names like
Rodda, Kerevi, Gill, Lucas, Scott Young, BPA, Hockings, Grealy, and Slipper all had great Reds action and futures but left.

Ikatau, Swain, Van Nek, Shaw, Vella, Matt Gordon, and Mowen all Ld Juniors that took off for Brumbies before Reds recognised them.

And the list goes on and on and on.

In the meantime the Reds are recruiting in NSW and South Pacific.

PS does anyone know what Petaia is planning?

Players will chase opportunity - Gill was because he wasn't getting a look in at Wallaby level, Rodda and Lucas didn't want to take the pay hit like their team mates, Scott Young another who saw limited national opportunities so chose to go overseas, Kerevi was money, Slipper was drugs. You can't blame the Reds for all this, with rugby having international opportunities players will be attracted to that.

Some of the Brumbies players are probably an example of Canberra scouting well and offering a playing spot where someone might be stuck behind a more established player at the Reds. Brumbies don't create many players so they have to get them from somewhere. If you were a young open side flanker in Qld now you would definitely see that McReight is going to own the 7 jersey for a while so if someone else offers you a spot you will seriously consider it if you want a professional career.

Brad Thorn pretty much pushed him out the door after the failed cocaine tests based on his view that he couldn't have drug users around young players - Brumbies offered him a spot.
Not quite.

James had two failed drug tests. The first Brad and the Reds tried to give him support as Slip's mum was either diagnosed with cancer or passed ( I can't remember if she is still with us).

The second time they were kind of forced into getting Slip's to move on.

If I recall correctly at the time he also tried to cover one of them up and got caught out.

Still - tough circumstances though and I’ve really enjoyed watching him get his career back on the upwards trajectory.

Not sure the Reds can be blamed for what happened though.
