I don't think le Hornet knew that his would be the inaugural page 99 post ILTW..

EDIT: PS CRAP! After an extended break from the forums I have this feeling that I'm about to jump back on the bandwagon. To use twitter jargon ('cause I'm never on there) #addict

Apologies, BG I was unclear - the inaugural post on page 99 of this thread, thereby meaning that in fact we had only one page to go (now half a page!)

There goes the QRUs target of 40,000 members for next year.

Not sure about that. They've got a bit over 17k signed up already. If it's all true I think Wayne Smith is right on the mark with the comments below. Having stuck with the Reds through all the shit years, to now seemingly have the good times sabotaged by the national body is fucking frustrating.

If, as now seems likely, Cooper walks away from Australian rugby to either join an overseas rugby club, switch to league or, like his close friend Sonny Bill Williams, embark on a boxing career, his departure would trigger one of the most explosive confrontations in the history of Australian rugby.

Queensland officials are known to be appalled by the ARU's handling of the Cooper saga, believing its treatment of him to border on vindictive.

If he was to be prevented from playing for the Reds, the side he guided to the Super Rugby title last year, the ARU could find itself at war with one of its biggest and most influential stakeholders. In particular, Queensland rugby heavyweights are convinced Cooper's views on the Wallabies are shared by many senior players.

For all of the negative portrayals of Cooper as a troublemaker, he remains one of the most popular players in the game. Despite missing most of the 2012 international season, he still embarrassed the ARU by finishing as a finalist in the People's Choice Award at the John Eales Medal dinner

thank god for the internet, no trees have died as result of these 99 pages.

Those 99 pages I might add should have covered less than 1. With only 3 posts:

  1. Good riddance quade
  2. Quade that was a silly thing to say, but I hope somehow you stick around
  3. Quade you're right mate, good for sticking it up the ARU
Then people just like whichever one supports there view.

But I guess the 99 page route is another way of doing it...

Hey mate, I think it's been mentioned before that if Quade doesn't want to leave the Reds, and wants to either a) have a tilt at another Super title or b) play out of his skin and make it back in then sign a huge deal next year, he can sign that ARU contract with no skin off his nose. That's fundamentally all that would happen if the ARU sanctioned his QRU contract anyway. Alternately, he indicates that he does have a dollar focus and/or lacks the goods to improve his game physically or mentally and/or is thick/advised by poor role models.

Regardless, if his passion for the Reds is there, nothing is stopping him from contributing to the good times in QLD rugby.

It's funny, I'm not the biggest fan of Cooper, but i actually hope that he does suck around and show every doubter what he's made of. That said, I don't think that the team benefits from a dare I say it, toxic influence as he has been of late.

what the hell are the ARU doing? I haven't read the thread. Just heard they are offering him a rubbish deal. They better have a good excuse, like it or not he is one of our best backs.

Summary:

- Off field incidents
- Poor form
- Injuries
- Disciplinary issues

Also, the ARU have at least offered him a deal albeit incentive based, so he'd still earn extra $$$ for playing with the Wallabies.

Phase 4 of Operation Wallaby Wind Up is progressing nicely. Well done agents.

Ok I guess that can account for it. Seems a bit harsh though. Seems like they are making an example of him to stop more off field crap given how many awesome fly halves we now have.

I for one thank Quade for his services to Australian rugby. He has trained hard for years to represent his country. Good luck in the future mate. (assuming he doesn't accept the rookie contract offer)

Maybe we can have a separate thread with positivity?

The word on the street is that he has turned his back on Australian rugby, after being pushed of course.

He did act as though he felt he was bigger than the game.
There have been many off-field issues with him and he has had many opportunities to redeem himself, none of which he took.
He remained defiant and disrespectful to the last declaring recently he would not front for the Wallabies if picked.

The ARU were smart in that they left the door slightly ajar for him whereby he could prove to all that the money really was not that important and that he had renewed respect for his employers and the game in Australia. But that will never be the case with QC (Quade Cooper). The money is all important along with having his ego stroked.
The ARU now does not need to pay out any severance or honour an existing contract. Financially wise move and a message has been sent out to all players who would put themselves above the Wallabies and their set-up.
