How do you figure? This week Phipps threw one howler of a pass but was solid other than that, tackled well, and did the lion's share of the work for the decisive try.

He's never brought controversy to the ARU's doorstep (Quade has multiple times) and he's not been billed as a first choice starter like Quade is. Despite all of this I doubt he'd be being paid much more than Quade has been offered anyway.

Let's remember, if Quade plays the Lion's tour he will make PLENTY of money. If he doesn't he proves his incentive based contract correct.

It's a win-win for the ARU and not for Quade, a man that they no doubt look at as a necessary nuisance.

Firstly, wasn't the fine and suspension dealing with the indiscretion? Did the hearing also say he should be put on a lower contract because of his comments?

Secondly, why not put all players on incentive based contracts then? Probably because some will be used to market the game more than others. They have more intrinsic value to growing rugby in this country.

How is it that the biggest story in Rugby is broken by a Mungo reporter?

If that is QC (Quade Cooper)'s approach now, then I say that the ARU should hold the line and not blink and kow tow to this form of public brinksmanship.

They should simply offer him a cabcharge voucher to the airport for use on his way out of the country enroute to Japan or boxing or wherever.

How else was he meant to respond?

He was punished with a hefty fine for voicing something publicly and made an apology (no doubt instructed to do so) and then given an insulting contract offer well AFTER it was supposedly resolved.

If they didn't want him to play, why not be upfront and just cut him loose to begin with? Why bother to hold the hearing and go through the motions of press releases etc etc. They didn't want him, and this is how they went about it.

Absolutely childish behaviour of the highest order. Just because he was a dick, does NOT mean that the ARU should do so in return.

Anyone that thinks that the ARU has acted correctly in all this is simply just making shit up to cover the fact that they don't like the guy.

Am I recalling this correctly, didn't Quade just say that it wasn't about money he just wanted to play for the Reds? The part holding it up was that the ARU hadn't signed off the contract. Well they have now offered to do so, he doesn't have to play for the Wallabies he can just play for the Reds.

So either:
- I've misunderstood
- he was bullshitting when he said what he said
- the Nine news have misreported. He has quite Australian Rugby, as in he won't play for the Wallabies, but will play for the Reds.

He's an idiot for promising something to the fans that is out of his hands. He should've said, "Quade at the moment does not have an ARU contract so he will not be in Reds colours until he has one. We cannot guarantee he will be at the Reds next year."

I'm with Jim on this one. He probably feels that he has been badly let down by QC (Quade Cooper) after backing him both pubicly and privately, and most likely giving him some very sound advice through this period.

Does that warrant calling Jim an idiot? No. In the circumstances, I think he did the right thing.

Sorry Gel I disagree. The ARU offered him the right contract. He is coming back from a very serious injury. Will he be able to play for the Wallabies again? If they fork out a tonne of money and he doesn't everyone will be saying why did they sign him for 3 years when he was injured. In saying that it will be interesting to see if they do the same for Genia.

If I was QC (Quade Cooper) I would have said yes to the incentive based contract for one year to prove my worth and then signed a longer term contract once I had done so. I susepct that QC (Quade Cooper) and Co. are uncertain about the injury and want the security of a 3 year deal.

An idiot? Really.

Well, your entitled to your opinion I guess. For the record though, I'm quite happy having that idiot in charge of the Reds and hope he remains for the forseeable future.

Word is there will be a press conference later this week or early next week fronted by Quade and Khoder to say what's going on

Highly unlikely. Khoder has had ample opportunity to front the media in the past and has not. And let's face it, the man appears to be somewhat of an opportunist (at best). He has (had) 3 clients, $BW, Mundine, QC (Quade Cooper). It's fair to say none of those gentleman would make the intellectual giants list, hence the crap advice Khoder gives his clients is listened too. See Mundine's comments re 9/11 for proof.I would be very surprised to see Khoder actually face the media and put himself in danger of actually being questioned.

As for QC (Quade Cooper), I applaud the ARU for withdrawing their offer to him. In the end, no-one is bigger than the game itself. No-one. Only issue is, QC (Quade Cooper) is too stupid, and so too are his advisors to realise that the comments made about the Wallaby environment are completely unacceptable and inexcusable. Rugby is only losing someone who has said he wouldn't play if chosen. So in the end, the Roosters can have him!!!!

And don't let the door hit him on the arse on the way out...................

By getting fit and playing the best he can in order to get selected for his national team and the match incentives on offer.

Alternatively by getting on a plane down to Sydney after booking a meeting with the ARU negotiators and having private negotiations in good faith to see if there was a way to meet find some middle ground.

He said it wan't about money. Another piece of bs maybe?

Others on here have said how his bank balance could absorb the fine.

Guess he was serious when he said he didn't want to play in YELLOW again.

Rugby is big enough and ugly enough to move on. Not the first "Star" to go with unfulfilled potential. Look at Mark Ella. We got over his loss (eventually) and unearthed Noddy Lynagh a short while later.

Not to mention a complete genius by the name of Larkham a few years later too..............

Scotty - how does it demonstrably benefit WA or Victoria, for instance? I think Quade Cooper is an asset best kept in rugby in Oz, but I struggle a little with Quade=good for Qld = more supporters and players in Qld = good for everyone else = should be paid more by the ARU for all the positivity he brings. Ultimately, he carries baggage, much of which he packed himself.
The complete lack of a real offer is, in my mind, churlish on the part of the ARU, but he has to prove his value on the field, not as a sales pitch. I hope he does.

This is what you said. How does giving the likes of tuqiri, Rogers or Tahu huge top ups demonstrably benefit WA or Victoria for instance? How does having around 10 waratah players currently getting ARU top ups benefit these states? Should we rescind all top ups to these players, particularly the ones that are currently injured or out of form?

The fact is that Australian rugby needs marketable stars that can help grow the game. There is no doubt whatsoever that Cooper is one of these. Growth in rugby in Qld = growth in Australia = more professional level players = stronger teams across the board = stronger national team.

I don't think it is that complicated at all.

I bet this is exactly what the ARU wanted. They can't fire Quade- no matter what he says- you'd piss off too many Reds fans and quite a few other Wallabies fans too. Quade leaving of his own volition works well.

shouldn't Horne then be on an incentive deal too based on that theory?

I suspect Carmichael has done the best he can in a difficult situation without getting the result he wanted, if nein's reporting is accurate.

I suspect Quade felt he played the game with his fine and apology but the contract offered was more like a cane than the straw that broke the camels back.

Finally, I suspect that rugby is the best place for Quade (boxing - haha), especially with the Reds and Genia, and that if he has any sense he will recognise that. That doesn't mean top 14 or japan won't be VERY attractive to him.

He hasn't shown a lot of sense so far. But somehow he has gotten this far, there must be some base ability to survive there. But he could survive quite well in France or Japan.

No surprise given the lack of offer.

I'd think that is his only chance of playing rugby for the next 6 months is with the Reds unless someone in France or Japan quickly throws together a contract. But if he is still injured a season of super rugby is probably needed to get his price back to 'acceptable' levels. Here's hoping he can go round once more.

I understand people don't like the guy but am surprised some are celebrating his loss. I watched him do many things on a rugby field no other player in this country has the ability to do. His loss will be a blow to Reds AND the wobblies.
