I don't blame the reds supporters for backing Quade so heavily, but I'd lay money Quade is privately wishing he didn't hit send. His tweets were utterly inappropriate, showed no respect to Deans, the Wallabies, or even to rugby.
If you go back and look at what quade has actually said, both on twitter and in the papers, I think it is pretty clear he has made a conscious decision to say what he has in the hope that it will spur on change in the ARU, and that will benefit Australian rugby.
I don't see a call to be bolder in the way the team plays as lacking respect to rugby. I do however see the scheduling of stupid test matches by the ARU with second string XV's as disrespectful to rugby. Furthermore I see the signing of horrible TV deals in which test matches are shown on delay and strung out with Ads as disrespectful to the rugby community.
I dont see a deep desire to win games and beat the All Blacks as disrespectful to the wallabies. I do however see the constant losses to lower ranked teams as disrespectful to the wallabies legacy. Not to mention the utterly defeatist comments that deans made following the towelling his team received at the hands of the all blacks a few weeks ago.
The only comments I see as disrespectful are the ones directed at deans, but Dean's performances as coach have been just as bad as Coopers as a player.
Those sticking the boot into quade are making this issue out to be black and white - criticism is always utterly inappropriate. But the reality is that this issue is as grey as they come.
I, along with many on this forum, the press and the general public have been saying similar things to what quade has said for a years now. I think in this case criticism is warranted, as the consequences of not doing anything, of continuing to slide towards mediocrity and very possibly losing the lions tour, are far more damaging to rugby than any short term bad press or damaged egos.
