I read the bit about Morahan as meaning he had a full Reds contract - presumably a rookie one (dont you still have to have 3 rookie contracts each year?)

Chambers is one (perhaps), Morahan, and heck, maybe Tapuai is the third.

So, for 2010:

Confirmed Losses - MMM (perhaps playing in 2010 however - thanks ARU) [Japan], Barnes [Tahs]

Rumored Losses - Digby [Japan/Tahs], Hardman [retirement], Braid [who knows?]

Possible Losses - Van H [retirement], Dayna Edwards [is his contract up? is he injured again?]

Confirmed Gains - Will Chambers [Melb Storm]

Rumored Gains - one of Rocky Elsom [Leinster] or Mitchell Chapman [Brumbies]

Possible Gains - Titteral [Gloucester]

Likely to move up from Academy - Morahan, Shaw, Tapuai

Players off contract to resign for 2010: Barnes, Genia (at least)

Duds who wont be kept now contract has expired: Well, the duds all appeared to be signed until 2010.

Edited to keep it more or less up to date

Noddy - what about promoting Anthony F to start at 12 and have Cooper settle into 10. After his stint with the Wallabies this year I think he will mature a bit. Lucas to the bench.

Ioane should sign and then he will start at 13 again surely. Best Aussie back this year by far, he made inroads in the midfield which is what you need. Pukunui off the bench to cover midfiled.

Hynes, McLinden, Chambers in the back 3. Not bad starting lineup of backs, with a solid bench (IF Pukunui is fit).

If you can't find a way to keep your best player what hope is there! I am devastated. Thinking of moving. I can't believe he would sign with anyone else.

I will have to seriously think about my season tickets for next year. Can't see the point of putting my hard earned into .... I'll stop there i Think

Lets see how your precious Tahs would go on a state of origin basis: not too well I suspect. Better than ACT or the Force though.

Pretty much. I'd put money on them for the spoon, if the odds were not, no doubt, so good for it.

I have already heard the statement - I am not getting a season ticket next year from two others today. QRU and Qld rugby is fucked.

As one who has consistently put the national interest above state loyalties, Barnes' preference for the Tahs over the Reds augurs badly for Australian rugby. With our meagre rugby resources we need EVERY Super side to be strong. Although at times they don't act like it they're part of the collective, Queensland is a very important part of the fabric of Australian rugby.

If the QRU show a miniscule amount of maladministration in the immediate future I hope the ARU step in and take over management of their affairs. But, due to the dog in the manger attitude of most Queenslanders to national affairs, there's little aptitude or goodwill on the ARU's part to help Queensland rugby.

Barnes and Mitchell preferring the Tahs to the Reds, MMM buggering off to Japan; a sad time for Australian rugby.

QLD is screwed, 13 or 14th in 2010...

the new S15 side will pillage most of the Reds players coming off contract in 2010, i see a recurring theme here...

QUEENSLAND Rugby union chief executive Ken Freer reportedly has been sacked with former top players Tim Horan and Jeff Miller in line to replace him.

Freer, a former top brewery executive, has been under pressure for months since the Reds' disastrous Super 14 season.
The defection of flyhalf Berrick Barnes to the NSW Waratahs is believed to have been the last straw for the QRU board, which met late yesterday.

Horan is highly regarded in rugby circles but has no administrative experience in the code.

Miller is a former QRU CEO and former Reds coach.

Cheezel, Lewis hired Freer, there would be a good case for him to go next. But for that position you need someone (quality) prepared to stand up and take the role.

Crombie as Pres is purely a figurehead isn't he?
