NZ Domestic comps

LOL NZ Rugby is so completely and inexorably rooted.

400k up in smoke in 80 minutes.

Havent read the big review but the gist seems to be 5 or 6 soup teams and 14 unions is unsustainable at a pro$$ level

Would love to see them get shot of Soup Rugby and just have NPC

AUCKLAND
BAY OF PLENTY
CANTERBURY
COUNTIES MANUKAU
HAWKE'S BAY
MANAWATU
NORTH HARBOUR
NORTHLAND
OTAGO
SOUTHLAND
TARANAKI
TASMAN
WAIKATO
WELLINGTON

.....which would never work as 14 pro teams is too many and half the players would get crap pay and bugger off overseas.

Oh well, will CC in @zer0 he'll have the solution

Following a rigorous review, headed by an unnamed former All Blacks, Blues, and Auckland coach, the review committee makes the following recommendations:

Canterbury is to, immediately and with no delay, be disbarred from competing in any and all professional rugby endeavors, and all it's ill-gotten players sent to Auckland for a fair and equitable redistribution.

We are confident that the recommendations made in the exhaustive report will provide the silver bullet panacea to the issue at hand. No, we will not elaborate. No, we will not be fielding any questions at this time. Nor, indeed, ever. Thank you.

The other solution, I think, is to dispense with the PU's altogether in terms of pro footy; set up sub-Super Rugby franchises in the main population centres; & have fully amateur comp(s) for the players who don't get a franchise contract but choose to stay in NZ.

This is the better solution imo. Leave the provincial unions to managing the community game, with a focus on participation, while NZR handles the professional game. Though there would be a ~10 team (potentially including a Moana development team) T2 pro competition that takes the place of the current NPC, while the NPC can be retained as a fully amateur competition like the current Heartland Championship.

The report doesnt actually name any names. Typical arse-covering corporate bollox. Opportunity for a no holds barred forii rewrite. That dopey dingus Mark Robinson needs his head handed to him on a plate for the lily-livered Fozzie fiasco. Dude went to Cambridge University? The fuck did he major in, lunchtime quad bong construction?

Having laminated in triplicate this exhaustive report and, from every angle, having subjected it to rigourous and rhythmic examinations by my front bottom I can confidently report to the board that the groundbreaking document stands up to the one-eyed test of vigourous cock and ballz governance.

^ yeah, it's almost as if Robinson knew what the review was gunna come up with wrt NPC...

Or maybe the review were always going to come to a conclusion that NZR has said for a few years . It's only on a few internet forums that what Robison said was considered new, I heard him on Breakdown say last year they were trying to find ways of making it better. And I recall the threat of court action stopped it getting pruned years ago. It's not really anything that's come out of review!
Same as review saying Super is a bit of a cock up? For some reason that has slipped through the rugby forum readers. ;)

Geez Countis-Manakau bowl Canterbury in their storm week game!!! Scored a try in corner at 82 minutes in corner, and conversion by 3rd choice kicker!!!
Makes you wonder a bit, I am enjoying NPC more than WC, but I a real fan of this comp!

Good few games this week, which is handy as not a lot of excitement games in WC (apart from Wallabies/Fiji).
Aucks/Waikato, Nth Harbour/Taniwha, The Bay/Wellington are all games that could go either way, I of course will be right into Naki/Otago games.
In saying the games I named that could go either way, if you watch this comp you know that tends to be any one of the games.
It's a nightmare for my bloody picks!

^ interesting given he only committed to Fiji U20 after missing out on selection for NZ & has been quoted as having AB ambitions. But good on the kid, maybe he was just saying what he thought people wanted to hear.

Also suspect he has noted that there were 3 10s picked ahead of him in U20s? But I really happy if getting a chance with Drua has helped to decide that Fiji is way he wants to go. It's one of reasons that Drua was formed.

Bloody good game between Caterbury and Tasman. Catnerbury 30-28 was real good stuff. Also would think anyone watching would see why I think Anton Segner is one of the best loose forwards we got in the country, if I was coaching young ones, I would get a recording of the game and tell kids to watch how a No7 or 8 should be playing the game!

^ I really don't understand why Mako took that final three when five behind. Lineout was working well & they could've launched a maul from within 10m plus dirty cheating Cantabs must've been close to losing someone for repeated cheating I mean infringements.

Fully agree wrt Segner, kid has a big future if he doesn't wreck himself.

I been on Segner wagon since I saw him for NZ schoolboys in Brisbane a few years ago.

I am also pissed, for the first time in my life I staying home from rugby because of weather(Naki/Aucks). Not at ground as I got a good seat in stand, but the drive , it's only about 1 hr 15, but driving home later in dark and rain is not appealing anymore! I getting old and feeling it!

F*** me ,Taniwha get beaten in 81st minute by Auckland. Was an entertaining and bloody proper game of rugby. The ref may of missed a few things at the breakdown, but rather that than blow every bloody thing up.

Top-8 locked in but only 1. Wellington & 8. Waikato confirmed, remaining six could finish in just about any order depending on last four results tonight & tomorrow e.g. Taranaki can finish 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th.

Edit: 'nua destroyed by Whanganui & I've a horrible feeling they get the wooden spoon :(

Quite good isn't it? 4 games played Saturday, and 3 of them were won by 2 or less points and won in last few minutes.
And of course the won bigger win was the Naki tying up 2nd place.:)
