I can confirm the halfback for scots 16 A's name is mitchell short and i can also confirm that he has been red hot this year, continuing to impress in each and every trial match.

ahh yes the good old gps boys going on about themselves ...
I would like to see some of these boys form an upset at this year's school titles as word on the grape vine is that there is some quality talent in this CCC team, a few big boys in the team is always a plus as this team has.

They don't seem that good because you don't know them ?!?! Good job we have your expert knowledge of the game to weed out the also-rans.

For the benefit of Magpie, the only boys I know are Will Davies and James Parker. Will goes ok and James is a quality player (one of the stars of Manly's Harold Matts side for the benefit of Tigger). Surprised a few more St Paul's boys didn't make it through though.

Again, i dont know alot of these boys, but i do know some, Davies and parker are 2 also.
I rate Parker, good strong runner, but easily defendable. Davies, not so good, wasnt as good when i watched him. I dont know these boys, but seemly, i know parents of boys that didnt make the team and the talk from schools is that it isnt a crash hot team

Fact that a "few more St Paul's boys didn't make it", might be an indicator of the strength of this squad.

don't think mitch short from scots will go anywhere near a selection. davis i expect will be all over him this weekend. ollie kamp is good but doesn't the running game that would required to make a spot. will davies from ccc is very good and would be one of the best insides in the game for our age. and what about robbie wolfgram

I think you have made a fair point. but dont rule him out, he has played 4 games of exelcent footy and i would say is very much so in the running for selection over Davis, not saying DAvis wont get it, but short vs davis will be a good battle, and olly kamp captaining the 16a's at scots is a great effort, the kid is quick, tackles like a machine, wins any ball you give him a chance at and never runs a hit up softly.

Robbie Wolfgramm would have to be up there. Don't think any player in any position has a record to match him from last year. NSW rugby union U15 and Australian Schools U15 merit rugby league team. Reaching the highest level available in both codes suggests that the lad might have a bit of talent...

Wow!! Hasn't there been some activity on this thread over the last couple of hours since I last checked in!!

As has been said before there is plenty of talent in this age group and it was good to see some familiar names on that CCC U16 list. De Santis is a huge unit and I'm surprised to see him at 4 as I'm sure I saw him playing in the centres last year. Scot Hogan was the ARU U16 Merit team no 9 and is a gun player.

Let's not forget that the competition for spots starts off with getting into the schools rep teams (CAS, CHS, GPS, ISA, CCC etc) for the U16 NSW Schools team and the MSZ, MNZ and MWZ for the Sydney U16 teams with both teams going on to the U16 National Championships in late September together with the Country U16s team. So there's plenty of opportunities for club, school and country players to play high level rep rugby at U16 level.

Just a couple of comments about some players mentioned and some other suggestions:

Kellaway walks into either of the Sydney or NSW Schools U16 sides as does Tepai if he's fit as he is recovering from a broken finger. What a centre combination!! They'll either end up in the same team or split between the Schools and Sydney sides which would be a pity as they'be lethal together particularly with someone like Jamo Clarke (Trinity) serving them up good ball from the 10 position.

I like Dempsey from Riverview as he plays right on the edge but just needs to be careful not to go over it. Aggression is a beautiful thing in rugby but controlled aggression is even better. Macalman from what I've seen in rep and ARU squad games is quite inspiring and plays relentlessly. Maybe a bit challenged size wise at the moment but makes up for it with a ton of courage. Cam Orr from Trinity is another fine young player and can play 4,5,6 & 8. Very hard to go past Nick Pennisi from Joeys as he's an outstanding talent and is so consistent. Jono Hardy is also the goods.

Jones is a much better 15 than he is a 10. Saw him play at Riverview a couple of weeks ago and he ran the ball sensationally. Has a very big physique and is not scared of contact in attack or defence. Half back is always the most contentious position and nearly all those named would do the job admirably.

The front row will be very interesting. There's Malaki Afele, Troy Smith, Jarrod Matairavula, Lucas Bateman and a number of others. As I've noted in other posts Bateman is very impressive and probably has the best loose head scrummaging technique that I've seen in a young prop since Benn Robinson played Schools rugby. I've seen him absolutely destroy some of the larger young props going around in the ARU squad games and his fitness for a prop and mobility in continuosly getting to the breakdown is quite impressive.

Hooker is a postion I can't say that I've got a handle on at the moment and I'd be interested in thoughts on No 8 and the wing candidates.

Yeah, Lucas Bateman was didn't make the CCC squad, as he was in the MCS team at the trials. I believe he is in the shadow squad; might go through via the Sydney junior's squad.

With the Tepai, Kellaway thing, do the boys themselves get a choice of which team they would prefer to play in, ie if they are both wanted by selectors from Schools and Sydney (i have a feeling they will be) do they get to put their hand up, or does the school, or their coach make the decision for them. or do schools get first pick and they have to accept it or vice versa
