From What I have seen Ben Stacy is an interesting prospect, but he appears to be constantly out injured. That may affect his eligibility for selection.

He had a heart problem I hear. Quite serious, and heard he had to get an operation on it? I would consider him though, especially after his game against scots. He's quite good at the breakdown, pilfering. What do you think?

State Champs U16 team lists for last year's finalists. They came with numbers, so I assume these are starting numbers (or at least the numbers the boys will be wearing).

Parramatta

1. Jarrod Matairavula
2. Jack Ulu
3. Puipaa Maa
4. Matthew Matson
5. Paea Pua
6. George Taufa
7. Riley Jacobson
8. Iona Taiki
9. Brent Whicker
10. Cale Angeloni
11. Jim Ah Cheung
12. Tepai Moeroa
13. Trent Winterstein
14. Jake Roberts
15. Niu Tupou
16. Jamieson Clark
17. Brad Korak
18. Max Brinnand
19. Dean Pologa
20. Malaki Afele
21. Junior Satiu
22. Tepai Smith-Tepu
23. Ethan Matthews

Surprised that Jamo Clark only got a bench spot. Cale Angeloni is a very good player but thought Clark would have got 15 if pipped for 10 jumper. Malacki Afele on the bench too... another surprise but he is recovering from injury.

Great looking side with so much depth!!

Haven't seen him play this year but in the couple of games I saw of him last year he is very talented. Tall and rangy and a very good ball runner with a great fend and excellent step. Reads the game well too and often gets back to help his backs in cover. Hope his heart problem doesn't impede his progress as he has a lot of potential.

CAS 2nd XV (U16) -

O Maola (T), C Landry (B), F Fiala-Motu (W), T Borkowksi (C), L Akopian (B), T Hanson (B), T O'Connor (W), J Corbin (C), J Whittaker (W), B O'Donnell (W), O Delorenzo (C), A Downing (K), T Davis (B), W Stephens (B), T Hassan (W), H Upton (B), L Stevens (W), L Plasto (K), H Vincent (T), D Agius (A), G Allen (C), G Dove (B), S Worthington (W), Coach - Mr H Engele (W),

If you do the finger counting you have to wonder about the selectors? Doesn't appear to reflect the relative strengths of each team as per the competition table, but then again, "a few" playing up into 1st XVs has no doubt altered the nature of the U16s competition.

same policy with GPS, those that are selected in either GPS 1st or 2nd have priority over sixteens...so we may loose some of our best talent...
BUT give others an opportunity.

I see that THP Satiu (Trinity) has been named in the CAS U/16s. He was THP for the CAS Is yesterday at Cranbrook and had a good game. He was one of the few CAS players I though warranted mention in my report of the match.

My point is that if he is U/16 qualified, and played so well in Opens, then he is going to be even a better rep Opens player next year, and, if he is young enough, the year after as well.

spot on lee grant. satiu is a year 10, 16 yr old and an excellent player. He's scrummaging at TH is great and his on and off the ball work is good. Should be NSW 16 THP.

Average sized kid with not alot of meat on him, hes fairly quick so ive heard but he hasnt really been a stand out in the CAS comp so far so i assume he must have had a good game at the trials

Canterbury/Sydney Uni

Uni, sorry Canterbury struggle in the 16A Sunday comp, I don't know how you expect them to do that well at this level.

RT you might want to look at the 16A's table again. It doesn't suggest to me that the Canterbury 16A's are struggling. On par with most of the other teams except Merrylands (however they have formed a super team this year). Last week Canterbury hammered North Pirates, and the week before then they beat Hawkesbury. I would hardly call that struggling!

After speaking to one of the Canterbury parents at the CCC, AICES and CHS practice games last week I was informed that Canterbury are actually the only club in the Syd Uni district from which Syd Uni draw a team for the State Championship. Pretty sad in my view and you'd have to ask what is being done by NSWRU and ARU about encouraging grass roots rugby in this area which is full of juniors.

Regards,
Newbie.

any suggestions of the 50 boys that are trialing at kings?

Take your pick!!

8-9 boys from each of Scots, View, New, Shore, Kings, Joeys + maybe 1-2 from Grammar.

I'm actually pretty impressed that they're casting the net so wide this year.

I agree with you Newbie. Canterbury/Uni should not be discounted at all. Heard about the Pirates result and thought it was just down to them (Pirates) having key players out due to schools commitments however I understand that Uni also had players out for the same reason too. Uni had a poor show last year, but to assume they will this year is naive at best. They stand a great chance this year.
