NSW AAGPS 2025

Acknowledging the Situation

We can confirm that Heamasini Makasini has signed a three-year contract worth 1.1 million AUD with the West Tigers. This is an impressive contract for someone so young and represents a significant signing for the Tigers, who are making concerted efforts to retain generational talent like Makasini. Personally, I see this becoming more prevalent within the GPS realm of players, as league clubs are now sending these athletes to elite private schools. Will players such as Callum Grantham (NEW), Talen Risati (TKS), Large Brothers (TSC), Rex Bassingthwaighte (SCEGS), Jai Callaghan SCEGS), Harry Beckett (SJC), Kynan Hart (SJC) follow suit?

Eligibility for the 2025 GPS Season

Regarding your question about Makasini's eligibility to play in the 2025 GPS season for Newington, the situation remains uncertain from an outsider's perspective. Decisions of this nature typically occur between the player, the school, and the Tigers, all within the parameters of his contract. Personally, I do see him playing, but it's still too early to say.

Parallels with Joseph Sua'ali'i

This situation draws interesting parallels to Joseph Sua'ali'i's tenure with the South Sydney Rabbitohs from 2017 to 2020. During that time, the Rabbitohs did not allow him to play for The King's School, primarily out of concern for potential injury. While this decision was made with good intentions, it arguably limited Sua'ali'i's development within a club environment. I see it as a major disappointment in terms of development, exposure, and enjoyment; at the end of the day, they are kids, not men.

Similarly, the West Tigers face a pivotal choice regarding Makasini's participation in school competitions. Allowing such generational talents to compete in the GPS not only enhances the competition but also provides invaluable experience and development opportunities outside of direct club involvement. Personally, I would love to see the talent play in the GPS, as it offers impressive development in the league system. His ability to hit hard, run hard, and showcase aerial acrobatics makes him a must-watch in the 2025 season.

Conclusion

From a club standpoint, it is crucial that the Tigers learn from the past mistakes of other clubs. The opportunity for players like Makasini to train and compete in a school setting can significantly enhance their skills, given that they receive world-class training, medical care, and facilities comparable to first-grade NRL players. By supporting their participation in school competitions, the Tigers can ensure that these athletes continue to thrive and develop, ultimately benefiting both the players and the club in the long run.

The Glazer here,

Yeah, I’ve heard the Tigers aren’t letting him play because there’s a clause in his $3 million contract that’s stopping him. I think the clause is that

1. He can't attend or play any games as a player
2. He can't train outside of the club without permission

And I think he's banned from the showers for some reason...

But that's crazy, right? He would tear through the GPS this year if it weren't for old Benji.

He's a dynamic and versatile back; he’s got that rare combination of blistering pace, razor-sharp footwork, and a bulldozer’s mentality when it comes to breaking tackles. His rugby IQ is off the charts—always in the right place at the right time, whether it's scoring try on the wing or shutting down the opposition's attack. Makasini is the type of player who can single-handedly change the course of a game. An electrifying talent, he’s the kind of player you build a team around. Simply put, he’s a game-changer and would rock the competition this year.

Kindest regards,
The Glazer
Dear Glazer,

Sounds like Makasini signed the 'No Fun Allowed' contract! Can’t play, can’t train, can’t even enjoy the showers—what's next, a no-smiling clause? With that skill set, he'd be running circles around GPS, but it seems he's only allowed to run his dishwasher. Classic Tigers move.

Cheers,
VBC

Responding to the Glazer,
I'm happy to acknowledge the sanctity of rubbish talk that gravitates to the Holy forum of "Green and Gold GPS 2025" forum, but can we at least write something that I can believe? We aren’t thick, mate—$3 million for three years would make him one of the highest-paid players in the NRL. C’mon, Glazer, give your head a wobble! You’re out here exaggerating figures like they’re in the Matrix. If that’s the deal, then I’ll start looking for my own contract with the Tigers—someone’s gotta get paid like a million-dollar meme, right?

Makasini would absolutely tear through GPS this year if he wasn’t caught up in whatever wild clauses you’re talking about. But hey, if he’s really stuck on this contract, it’s just a classic Tigers move—no play, no training, and definitely no fun. #Brainrot

To VBC:

Mate, couldn’t agree more! This whole thing is ridiculous. I’m all for a bit of banter, but $1 million for a bloke who can’t play, train, or enjoy a post-game shower? Someone needs to tell the Tigers they're not signing up for a corporate gig—this is the NRL, not a boardroom. The kid’s got the talent to make GPS look like a joke, and instead, he's stuck with a contract more twisted than my last Tinder date. Wouldn’t surprise me if there’s a clause banning him from breathing next. Classic NRL! Let the kid play, enjoy his final year of schooling and running around the paddock with some of his mates for life.

Joseph Sua'ali'i was on the same styled contract when he was at Kings. Yr 11 and 12 South Sydney made him sit them out I recall

My sources tell me his parents had him booked into Joeys for years 11 and 12 back in 2021. No league club connection my insider tells me. Harry has been country rugby for a few years now. Is there a league connection?
His Dad would crack a fit if his youngster turned to the dark side. Harry's been with the Wanderers in Newcastle since Under 7s. He has consistently been selected in the Hunter Wildfires, NSW Country, and NSW Waratahs. He was attending Hunter Sports High and I believe he moved to Joeys this year (2nd XV?). He's a great player, but NRL.....? I am happy to be proven wrong though if anyone has any evidence.

Harry’s dad cracking a fit? I don't know about a fit, but the man’s loyalty to rugby is stronger than Harry’s fend. If Harry even sniffs the NRL, we might see Dad rocking a 'Rugby Forever' protest outside. Great player, though—if he goes to league, at least he'd tackle better than half their forwards!

Absolutely spot on! The thought of Harry swapping to the "dark arts" of league is downright preposterous! I mean, can you imagine Beckett jumping ship to the enemy? That’s as unforeseen as a referee making a correct call!

Harry’s been a Wanderers stalwart in Newcastle since Under 7s, and his journey has been nothing short of impressive. From consistently being selected for the Hunter Wildfires to representing NSW Country and even the NSW Waratahs, he’s built quite the rugby resume! And now he’s made the leap to Joeys this year—2nd XV, I believe? Talk about climbing the ranks!

His ability to fend off those league offers is just as impressive as his on-field skills—talk about loyalty! It’s like he’s got a sixth sense for dodging those temptations while staying true to the game handed down from the rugby gods. Can you picture Beckett with a league ball? That's like asking a fish to ride a bicycle. Harry’s loyalty is as solid as a brick wall—no way he’s letting the allure of league lure him away from the sacred pitch. Here’s to hoping he keeps smashing those league offers and stays true to the game that runs through his family like a well-oiled scrum machine.

And let’s not forget his tackling prowess! His skills are so sharp, he could easily outshine several NRL hookers. Harry’s a staunch loyalist, and it’s clear that rugby runs through his veins like a well-timed pass. Here’s to hoping he keeps fending off those league advances and stays where he truly belongs!

Cheers to rugby, the game that still matters.

Dear, Boshman

Word is, Angus Grover demanded Riverview build him a statue before agreeing to play First XV. NSW Rugby tried to intervene, offering a bronze plaque instead, but Angus held firm. Rumour has it negotiations stalled when Riverview suggested using his Year 8 school photo for the statue design. The saga continues, and so do the memes!

On a serious note, I think NSW Waratahs are allowing him to play for the great Riverview next year as he voiced his desire to win a GPS comp. I think it is a similar situation to the Leo Jaques story. As soon as he finishes school at Riverview his full commitment will be to the Waratahs.

Thanks VBC,

Your recount of Angus Grover - the Man, is eerily similar situation happen a few years ago at St. Joseph's College. Preceding the 2022 AAGPS Rugby season, Max Jorgensen and his manager demanded that St. Joseph's College temporarily change its name to "St. Jorgasm College" during Terms 2 and 3. This request was ultimately turned down, but negotiations continued, leading to a compromise that involved replacing the 26 historic stained-glass windows located in "Sydney's most beautiful Chapel" (The Pope) with a stop-motion style montage of his highlights.

Additionally, the college was required to place a picture of Max Jorgensen next to every cross above each classroom doorway, with the "Hail Mary" prayer and "Our Jorgo" being recited daily during mentoring sessions. The negotiation table remained open, with the decision for Jorgenson to play in the mix until the first trial game. The stained-glass window saga was greenlit and enshrined in the famous SJC chapel, while the request for the "Jorgo" mugshot next to the cross was turned down.

However, a compromise was reached for Max Jorgensen and his manager (who I believe is his father, Peter). The college agreed to saw off and replace the head of the Jesus statue located in the circular drive with Max Jorgensen's head. Additionally, Max was to be given his own change room and referred to as "Daddy Jorgo" throughout the playing season. This fortunately payed off in Aces as the college secured its 57th AAGPS rugby premiership, all thanks to the sore backs of Max Jorgensen, Ronan Leahy and Joey Fowler.

In all seriousness;

@viewboyclan I am glad to hear you say that he NSW Waratahs are allowing him to play for the great Riverview next year, as he has voiced his desire to win a GPS competition. I also hope that Angus Grover can play a significant role in this journey, contributing to the team's success and making the most of his opportunities.

All Fun and Games....

Signing off, Boshman Journalism

Dear VBC,

Ah, Angus Grover—demanding a statue before even winning a title. Truly, the riverview man’s ego knows no bounds! A Year 8 photo for the design? Humerous move—who wouldn’t want a statue of a 13-year-old with a dream of winning a GPS comp before joining the Waratahs? Classic Grover. Even Angus Grover is scared to play GPS Cricket, hence why he quit to play sevens. My sources told me he's too incompetent to play a short ball from Tom Fuzes, and his contract had him quit cricket due to recurring concussions from his dreadfull pull-shot.

All jokes aside, I think Riverview has allowed him to play. Much like Leo Jaques, Grover’s journey is one of greatness. Riverview’s gain is, of course, the Waratahs' eventual treasure. His ability to balance schoolboy rugby glory and professional ambition is nothing short of impressive. We’ll surely be witnessing the rise of a rugby icon. #BSB

anyone have news on max Laverty if he's playing this year?
Yeah, I heard Max Laverty's been taking an unorthodox approach to training this year—apparently, he's been wrestling kangaroos in the outback to improve his tackling skills. Word is, his preseason game was delayed because he had to finish a 'best two out of three' match with a particularly stubborn one named Fred Bruce. The team’s hoping he makes it back in one piece!

On a serious note, I heard he is still slowly recovering from a shoulder reconstruction and is dabbling in a bit of preseason training. All goes to plan he should be playing by the start of the 2025 AAGPS rugby season.

still eagerly awaiting jokers story time on scots vs cranbrook.
You know what I'm eagerly waiting on?

An answer to if Patrick Smith (J) will play rugby this year. He has his commitments to the Sydney Swans, and I believe he is on a pretty well-off contract. A few other kids from schools also have their commitments, any others?

Glazer out.
