Dusk, nice to see such a polite and well-balanced post from a schoolboy, especially about a school he attends. We've had a lot (occasionally an avalanche) of schoolboy posters here over the years who've posted absolute drivel, your post is a refreshing change.

Good luck at Newington, keep us old timers informed about the rugby at Stanmore.

B&W, I NEVER lost to Newington.
Lindommer, Great to hear, you should be proud of your sporting achievements. And thank you for your kind words, to that Newington Boy. Sometimes, a kind word can do a lot for a young man's self-esteem. I am sure he will appreciate it.

Hello Dusk
Great to hear from from Year 12 Student at Newington. As an Old Boy and even as a Teacher, who briefly taught at the School. I can assure you the Money your parents spend on your education at Newington, is worth every cent. This may not be apparent to you at the moment, but it will be as you get older.

Could I ask a favour of you, when the Rugby starts could you please, supply the Newington results online to this forum. Even if its only the A teams. I realise you are busy with the HSC, so any efforts would be deeply appreciated from this Newington Old Boy.

I hope your final year at Newington is rewarding one, both Academically and in Sport. If I have any advice, for you dusk, is take full advantage of every thing on offer at Newington. Regret can be an uncomfortable thought, as I Iook back on my school days. So enjoy and value your friend ships at Newington, you find they could be life lasting. I know a friend of mine married my Sister.

So Dusk keep safe, work hard on your HSC and enjoy the last of your School days. They will be memories you will value for the rest of your life. For instant in my last year we managed to beat Joeys in a match that was our last game played as Newington Boys. And years later, when ever we meet at Old Boys Meetings, We will always speak of that afternoon, that as a 6th XV, we managed to beat a Joeys 6th XV, at Hunters Hill.

So your School Days, will be soon gone , so create your memories now. Finally,Don't be surprised that the standards and values, given to you by Newington, will influence your outlook for the rest of your Life. They did for me.

Regards and Best Wishes

Me neither.

BTW, I want to echo the words of Lindo with his assessment of Dusk's post. As mentioned before, we do get a hoard of year 12 lads from Riverview coming in and causing a ruckus. It is nice to hear some decent comment. You are most welcome mate, so stay awhile.
But Joker, I hope both you and Lindommer, enjoyed the experience of having played Newington as GPS Boys. Even if the Scores were one sided.

I made some good friends from Newington over the years. The games were very hard but at the end the hospitality was superb. One year a New family invited some of Joeys lads to join them for their picnic lunch.....mmmmm chicken!

They look the same as always....genetically created monsters ready for battle.

I think Scots should be quite good this year, not only due to the genetic creation which joker loves very much, but mainly because of how quite a lot of their year 12s this year played firsts and seconds in 21'. There is also around 3 year 11's in bellevue hill who played firsts and seconds last year. Henry James, Grayson reimer and Mattheus Heslin are the people I know but there may be more.

Also, Does anyone know which round View vs Joeys is? Saint vs Saint should be a good game this year!

The french peasants will take on the Spanish papal royalty at mud bowl this year.
(Joeys v View at View)
On August 6

*View's number 1 oval was once a dam for the dairy.

Joeys has a happy record at the ground.

Hi All

First time poster, long time reader. My son is in Yr12 and after observing the current yr11/12 boys play from year 7, New will have a competitive squad. Backline will be very strong as most boys played 1st last year and have good combinations. Defence in the centres needs to improve but otherwise very dangerous. Pack will be ok if they stay fit and healthy. New forwards need to be fit and give good, quick ball to the backs. If this happens, they will be very hard to beat. Suspect Joeys and Shore to be the main competition. Joeys as always have a very good all round team. Very dangerous backs. Shore have a great pack and ok backline. Not to sure about View's chances. This age group seems inconsistant. Kings has talent but not sure they'll match N,J or E. Scots as mentioned will be good but their 16's last year were poor so will need to rely on young players. New have to play Joeys away which will go a long way in deciding the comp. Shore at home will be a great game. Trials start soon. Should give us a good indication as to how teams are fairing.

Welcome WB to the party! Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the Tongan terrors for 2022. Fitness has been an issue with the islander lads in the past. Great power in the scrum but when a team runs them around they go missing. New will be very competitive this year. Joeys (my Alma mater) will be strong with the backs being dominated by the 15 and 12. They have speed across the park as always in the loose and bollocking loosehead who impresses me no end. (have soft spot for the prop) Look forward to the season ahead.

Thanks Joker. Always like your posts. Agree. The forwards need to be "rugby" fit. I know they are really working hard as they realise this year is their big chance. Countering the quicker Joeys forwards will be key to securing good ball for the backs.

Excellent assessment Wyvernboy, as many feel that Newington will bring an excellent backline to the competition. And yes Shore should be a real force this year in GPS Rugby. Also its great to have another Newington Supporter delivering a commentary.

No worries BW. After a few lean seasons, let's hope this group of talented boys train hard, stay healthy and play with Wyvern Spirit. They have the potential but do they have the application ? Also, will be interesting to see what combinations the coaches select for the backline. See you on the Bank.
