Hmmm, I've got absolutely no problem with them having different figures, but put your money where your mouth is if you don't think there's an issue. Why can't these be made publicly as I'm sure it'd be a great 'trust and transparency' story.
Yeah 100%, theres absolutely no good reason to conceal statistical data that would confirm there is no issue. They are lying through their teeth.

Well it's the first time I have ever seen the CEO name get mentioned, never seen Sanzar interview for anything so small steps.

Exactly, in so much the rugby press it's always Sanzaar this, Sanzaar that... Well it's about time Dorothy pulled back the curtain and had a look.

It's Andy Marinos and Lyndon Bray who are the guys running this reffing calamity. Not some mystery "all knowing, all powerful Sanzaar".

There’s nothing that sums up the general incompetence of rugby administration than the fact an anonymous guy with a bit of time on his hands on a Sunday can dredge up some unverified (not to say they’re incorrect) stats and send Sanzaar into shut down mode.
I think that also has a bit to do with the way the media operstss these days.

Is Sanzaar in shut down mode? What have I missed?

Well it's hardly shut down!! If the data didn't match theirs what else is there to say! Sometimes you better to just let it go, what data did paper have?

Well, the implication is that they are lying because they refuse to release their data and its hard to identify a good reason why they wouldnt release the data except that they are lying. If they did have a good reason they would probably just say so, e.g. 'we are contractually obliged not to disclose that information' etc.

The data the public had was Rebel3s effort which was compiled using publicly available match data which, assuming accuracy of source data, appears to be accurate.

He was also Berrick Barnes halves partner at IGS, and had a very unlucky pro career. Very good 9.

I kind of wish Nic had gotten the recognition he deserved as a player at school he was far friendlier than Berrick Barnes was. He was a lot quieter and a lot smarter. Rod Davies was a great bloke too. But by far the friendliest of all the guys I knew at Ipswich Grammar while I was there was Albert Anae. Guy was great fun and probably the friendliest of the 1st XV players over the year.

Thanks for taking the time but I thought I would also do the Penalty count win loss ratio for the away games to get a true reflection on the weather it is indeed bias or if it is actually just a country getting less penalties than the other and the stats show a different story to what you have suggested.

So South African Teams actually have a better penalty count win away from home with a non South African Ref as they do at home.

For the Stats I have only used games between SA, OZ and NZ only from the start of 2017 until the end of 2019
I used https://super.rugby/superrugby/ for all the stats and I have included the excel tables I used to calculate all the data in case someone wants to fact check.

I also included all games at home but I used all refs as I thought with Australia only having 2 ref compared to 5 of NZ and SA it wasn't a true reflection.

I thought I might throw in the yellow card totals for a look as well and as suspected NZ give away more penalties to yellow cards than OZ and SA.
for every 11 penalties NZ get a yellow
for every 8 penalties OZ get a yellow
for every 9 penalties SA get a yellow

Thanks for the effort Zane , stats can be interpreted differently I guess.

With two SA teams playing in SA , you still have an "away" team, similar in NZ and Aus.

Think the concern is non-SA playing SA at home with a hometown ref, compared to what happens everywhere else.

Great reply. I love Ippy Grammar as a school & there has been some terrific blokes/rugby players go through. It’s a shame IGS hasn’t had more success/depth. Another ripping bloke is Brett Gillespie.

Brett Gillespie and Dan Linde both went and played in Japan I believe. Albert Anae posted up a photo with Linde so he's still playing there.
It's just a shame none of the guys in my grade made it. I think we had one guy play one reds trial game against Japan in 2009 and one made the Reds last year but got cut this year that's about it.

No mate I think you are missing the point Australia only had 2 hometown refs so there score would be higher if they had the same amount of refs, New Zealand give away more penalties no matter where they play.

I would love to know where he got his stats from and the working out because by my calculation SA teams only gave away 157 penalties in total at home thats with a home ref or a neutral ref. Please can you go to my excel spreadsheet and go to the tables tab you can see all the games played home and away its very easy to read and covers all games played home and away and see for yourself, but you wont cause its easier to see a post and jump on it rather than taking 5min to check because you want it to be biased.

And how come when we play away from home with non SA refs do we still have a better penalty win? what are you gonna blame that on?

Hope you check it out and good luck for the weekend rugby. hope your team wins the penalty count:)

I understand that but if South Africa play away from home with a neutral ref and still win the penalty count, why is it so hard to believe that they can do the same at home without it being biased?

I would like to know were he got his stats from because he said that touring teams had 159 more penalties than SA the problem with that is that NZ and AU gave away 157 penalties compared to 101 for south africa so the difference is actually only +56 not +159 as he has implied.

And just so you are aware the pink results are home games with a neutral ref.

So from your tables, South African teams had a +110 penalty count from 2017 to 2019 when playing at home against Australian or NZ opposition.

What happens when you add Jaguares and Sunwolves games to that?
