CAS Rugby 2024

St Gregs with the win at Willoughby, 22-19. Aloys very close to snatching it back at the end, tight game in terrible conditions. Vastly improved performance by SAC.

Oakhill 19 Waves 5.

Couldn't tell you how good either team is, the ground was a lake, they probably shouldn't have played.
Oaks took their chances, Waves spent 75-80% on Oaks line but just kept making mistakes, deserved to lose.
Go away rain!

Got to give Credit to Oakhill, I thought they were very resilient. One of their tries was great - length of the field.

As for the Waves, they just weren't clinical. But that's school footy - you win some, you lose some.

Very much looking forward to the CAS season…based on pre season results it looks like it’s between Waverley and Knox for the shield. Can’t get a gauge on Barker as they have only played tier 3 opposition

Four more ISA victories by Auggies / Oakhill / Greg’s / Kinross over Knox / Waverley / Aloys / Trinity

Barker / Cranbrook beat Pats / Stannies

It’s pretty clear now 1. GPS 2. ISA 3. CAS

Barker lost to Oakhil by a point. Barker beat Joeys by a point. Barker beat Churchie in Brisbane by 50. Barker lost to Nudgee by 10 in a game they should have won. They lost to Riverview by a point…. All of these schools are leaders in their competition…. Not tier 3.

Apologies, was looking at the pre season draw on CAS site.Yes, Barker did just fall short of Riverview but the last 4 games leading into the CAS have been mismatched one sided games. Just curious why as both Waverley & Knox played GPS and the top two ISA teams

The reason the CAS pre season is not ideal is because GPS sports association did not inform CAS of their decision to go to a 2 round competition. GPS did this which left all CAS schools struggling for appropriate games. Hence the mismatch

Joeys rolled through about 35 players through in that game. I'm not sure how much you can read into that result.

GPS moved to home and away last season. I don’t think it would be a surprise to anyone this year and it wasn’t last year either because your statement is a load of nonsense. The rugby fixtures are negotiated many terms in advance. Barker puts up an inadequate number of teams to warrant prioritisation anyway.

The challenge for Barker to consistently get the quality pre season games is to build the depth in their program. It's not just about the 1st XV but getting the E's a game as well.
Kinross and Stannies (as an example) generally partner well when playing against one of the larger programs. Barker should consider similar options.

I think barker are mixing things up with trials to prepare for this season. They struggled with injuries last season after playing some very physical trial games. It seems like this trial period has been all about building confidence for the players.
