Maybe White can play 10? He seemed to stand there at times to kick the ball 60m.

I have a simple rule for judging field kicks. If it finds grass, you've probably done well; if it's caught on the full, you'll probably lose on the exchange one way or another. That's a minimal rule to follow. Once you master that, you go chat to Ronan O'Gara and take a Master class. None of Australia's 10s since Michael Lynagh would get an Associate Diploma. I was a big fan of Barnes until it emerged that he has neither distance nor accuracy.

Anyway, best of luck to Christian Lealiifano. Maybe G&GR can pony up for a get well card from all of us?

The above theory was on display last night with the kicking from the horsies: the kicks went for touch or into open space with mobs of chasers following. There was one 'box kick' which lost the Brumbies both territory and possession. Why do sides persist with them??..

Also what I thought was good was the amount of times the Brumbies retrieved the ball from high kicks.

I think this photo from The Canberra Times sums up the team environment for the Brumbies - Lealiifano is on the happy gas on a stretcher on the left and the team sing the team song around him.

Do they have a soloist to sing the song? I can only see one bloke with his mouth open.

Great win for the Brumbies.
Most satisfying was to see that they approached the match like they do with any other S15 side they play against, they did no substantially change the way they play because they were playing the Tahs - that to me is an indication of great self-confidence and mental strenght.

The loss of Lilo is a blow. However, the Brums' system of play this year seems to stress collective patterns of play with the occasional flash of individual brilliance - I am sure the whole team will build on that , and will lift to bring whoever steps in (Holmes would do a great job imho) at the required level. Best wishes to lilo, look forward to see you running again with the rest of the squad.

Was not happy when people booed Rocky (hey, whas that a cheap shot at the end?). AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) mentioned people might have booed him - should not worry about that and focus more on fundamentals of defence.

Yesterday was one of those balmy autumn days which makes the south-west slopes of New South Wales so delightful at this time of the year. So, I loaded up my wagon with wine and did a delivery run to Goulburn, Jugiong and Adelong, where I enjoyed lunch with my charming Tumbarumba winery principal. Then called in to another of my wineries at Murrumbateman to pick up some sorely-needed Riesling (Gold Medal winner at the 2011 Canberra Show). Battled on manfully to Canberra and the rugby. To be be painfully disappointed by the Tahs.

Back at home in the beautiful Blue Mountains pondering the point of life. Will a decent red ease the pain? Probably.

PS. Well played, Brumbies, you were too good.

I want your life.... except the part about supporting the Tahs!!:)

Some have indicated that they didn't enjoy the booing of Elsom, and whilst I certainly don't advocate booing of any sort, I think it reflects his standing in Canberra - extremely poor.

After having the Brumbies scrounge around local businesses to get money for Gits and Elsom, the way Elsom in particular turned out (or not) and represented the ACT was less than optimal.

Maybe White can play 10? He seemed to stand there at times to kick the ball 60m.

He played there for the Brumby Runners in March last year at Knox against the so called Junior Tahs, who played a lot of the normal Tahs reserves on a bye weekend. Not the worst flyhalf I ever saw either.

It's interesting to note who else was playing for the Runners in that game:A.Smith, S.Carter, Mogg, Hooper and Neville (now with the Rebels). Hooper? Yep - the Brumbies used Salvi and Colby at the beginning of last season and Chapman at 6. I can't remember that Hooper was injured at that time either.

Hooper only started a couple of games last year... played well... and then was suddenly benched again for Fainga'a or Salvi...

Same with Kimlin... played a string of good games and got benched behind Hand...

The brumbies selections last year really were strange. White didnt even get a look, even though he was carving up in club rugby.

Absolutely gutted about and for Lilo. I knew was it him straight away as he always has a signed bandage around his wrist. Zac Holmes, Coleman or even White to play 10.

I thought Fardy was the best forward on ground. Tahs played all their rugby on the half way line. They really should have played a bit more territory.

And they let Muggleton go, and now the leaky cracks in D are starting to give up points.
Unfare to say the Tahs let him go when he was only on as consultant. Spent a lot of his time coaching Georgia [I think] for the world cup. That said Tahs defence not as good as last year but they are not the same players.

A decent red eased some of the pain: exteriorised a very good bottle of 2006 Hilltops Cabernet Sauvignon (from my stable) with dinner. Trouble is the vineyard's in Brumby's territory and the owners are mad Brumbies supporters. Am I merely encouraging the bastards?

About as bad a decision as letting Mowen go. Sometimes I despair over my beloved Tahs.
