Brumbies 2025

Well, fuck... but he's had a pretty good run the last few years after injuries derailed his first couple of seasons, and he's played a lot of minutes in that time.

Missing the Blues and Chiefs games is a big blow, Brums really need to pick a win up in one of those if they're going to improve on last year

Valetini is a big loss but we do have some good depth in the back row.

Rory Scott seemed to have bulked up in the off season too.

Unfortunately I could see us going 0/3 in the first three rounds. Its about as hard a start to the season as you could get.

I look forward to seeing an update on Valetini, because it's weird he was talking to other reporters today about playing against the Drua in round one...

There's plenty of direct quotes from him in the article about the injury, made during the launch event today. The recovery time frame is pretty unclear, but it seems pretty unlikely he'll miss that game. Easy enough to have not adjusted in your mind, but also he's going to be talking about their round 1 game either way:
“I was up and running and I just felt something in my hammy,” Valetini told the The Roar at the Super Rugby Pacific launch in Sydney’s south on Wednesday.

“It was just a little tweak. I didn’t go down. It’s just a minor tweak, hopefully.”

Just how long Valetini misses remains to be seen, but the back-rower will likely miss at least the first month of the season.

Asked how long he would miss, Valetini admitted he was “unsure”.

“They say I’m a quick healer, so I’ll be back soon,” he quipped.

FWIW the month time frame does have him returning right around the time of the return fixture against Fiji too.

Yeah, I had a read over that before in light of the other articles published since and would've assumed news this big would've carried over by then, and had to wonder whether Doran was over egging his exclusive based on what Valetini is actually quoted saying and the timeline speculated by Doran, or whether the injury is just being kept quiet due to "Valetinis Day" being plugged for round one in Fiji...

I figure this gets confirmed one way or another tonight or tomorrow.

And I’m probably over analysing it to kill time…

Without Rob and Charlie Cale, there will be a big hole in the Brumbies game plan. Charlie's out until about week 4 and Rob perhaps undefined. The trial against the Force tomorrow now takes on added importance to establish the best backrow combination. Unfortunately, the match might be marred by similar weather to the freak hail storm that went through last evening.

EDIT : not to forget the forecast temperature at 35 Celsius.

Confirmation in the Crimes...

"He just picked up a little hamstring last week, not a major injury, it's not going to put him out for the season, luckily," Larkham said.

"We're working through that rehab process at the moment. In any rehab program, you're trying to tick off some boxes along the way. Once you hit a hurdle in terms of strength marks, you can progress to the next level. He is progressing really well, he has responded exceptionally well to all of the treatment and rehab programs that have been put in front of him.

"He's ahead of schedule at this stage. There's no firm return to play date yet."

Fingers crossed he's only out for a month or so.

Its hard to tell from the blog alone but it seems the attack really started to spark with Meredith on the field.

Its also unclear if he was play 10 or 15 as Jack Deb was on the field too

Meredith came on in the No 10 spot at the half time break. He immediately set about livening the attack up, not to mention the extra 15 - 20m he gets over Noah on penalty kicks for touch. Jack Deb came on later into the 10 spot and Meredith moved to 15 from where he scored his try. Debdreczini also played really good putting players through gaps. Noah is still the better goal kicker, although today only got one from two attempts, and he's the incumbent Brumbies and Wallabies No 10. Bernie has some soul searching to do.

It should also be mentioned that a change of referee coincided with a change in the flow of penalties after half time. Of course, could all be put down to a half time blast from the coaches.

I agree he's (Meredith) looked good at lower levels but I think you're underestimating the step up to a starting position. Obviously multiple coaches agree. It would be good for him to get some time as the season goes on, with Noah all but a certainty to head overseas next year, but I think you're getting a bit ahead of yourself.

Very keen for the real comp to kick off, the trials are always a total crap shoot with coaches trying things/keeping things up their sleeves. Very tough start, Brums would probably take 1 win from 3.

Griffins, Noah is the incumbent and deserves to start until such time as someone else convincingly plays better. To have that opportunity to do so, Meredith should be getting almost and perhaps preferably half a game as his form in the Trials as well as his Super Rugby games last year justify.

By the way, who are the multiple coaches. As far as I know, the only coach who has had both Noah and Declan to choose from has been Larkham. As a coach, he probably appreciates having a choice, and over the past year he has clearly favoured Noah. But how he manages the two of them this year will be important for the Brumbies on-field success, I believe.

Sorry I meant that two Wallabies coaches have been satisfied that Noah is up to international standard, with the current coach backing him consistently. While he's been inconsistent there is obviously something there. I expressed that poorly.

Meredith has carved up JID and played well in trials, but Larkham has also backed Debrecezni over him when it's come to the crunch. We'll need him to be good and I hope he gets more exposure this year but half a game each seems extreme to me.
