Dont forget the 40k is a base it doesnt include match payments. he was on a full contract this year plus all the money from playing tests.

I hope the Brumbies can hold onto him and if they dont it shows how broke the system is he will prob end up at the Tahs we all know they have room in the cap.......

Fardy was on a $40K EPS contract in 2013, he is going to expect a substantial upgrade. Given his value to the club, another zero in the number probably won't be enough. That's going to put serious pressure on the other contracts to stay within the salary cap.

I think it is wholly unjustified to expect to pay people less than their market price and justify it on the basis of good culture and environment. Fardy was being paid less than $25 an hour for his Brumby time this year (assuming 9-10 months work in 2012/13 including pre-season). The current minimum wage is $17 per hour. To describe anyone not willing to accept a low-ball offer as a mercenary is just name-calling.

Wasn't calling anyone names. I am just trying to point out that there will be some guys that will stick around because of things other than money, e.g. Genia at the Reds, and there will be others that move on when they get an offer of more money. You can't assume that Fardy & To'omua, or any of the players for that matter, will automaticly go to the team they get the highest offer from.

From where I sit a lot of the boys in that group were given a start by the Brums so for them to move on I think that it will take a lot more than just money for them to leave. Loyality generally has a fairly high price. Everybody is assuming that the Brumbies are going to have trouble keeping all of their playing roster because they will all want more money when this is not necessarily the case. Some might just want certainty, the chance to work with Bernie & to return the confidence someone has shown in them.

Some of course will want their 'market rate' as you put it and will move on if they don't get it.

Has Mowen received an upgrade from the ARU or Brums - bloke deserves (particularly from the Brums as he was largely responsible (along with "Jetaway Jake") for the rejuvination of the Brums.

Not on a top up from the ARU. Has to play 2 years in the Wallabies apparently. Izzy anyone?

I would think To'omua, Leo and Fardy all recognise that its been the Brumbies coaches who have gotten them in shape to be Wallabies... they would see value in staying a while longer and go for a Super title... they will be genuine contenders next year...

Agree re coaches, but a special thank you by these players should be yelled over to South Africa's Jake White. HE was the instumental factor I reckon

I'm not going to be sure one way or the other on how important White was until I see the injured players back and the team getting some results.

I agree, Jake did something special with the Brumbies.. which was basically gave them a massive kick in the pants.

Hopefully that is still around after he goes. If Gandolf and Bernie have half a sense now they have the control they will keep it strict..

Has anyone heard how Pat McCabe and Ita Vaea fared with their medical clearances yesterday?

And what is Henry Speight's current status as a potential Wallabiy?
