Hey Guys, McCabe is back from injury!

Some of the positives regarding McCabe's injury is that they've been focusing on his speed and skills while he's been unable to do contact training....

Anyways, he's been cleared:

I really want to see him on the wing again. His showed in the Kings and Rebels games that he can get good metres down the touch line, beat the defense to stay in play and make the good offload if he can. We already know how good he is on defense, maybe if Speight is out and we need a very defense based backline we could have McCabe at 14 and Rathbone at 11.

I don't really like Alexander as is, he is far too inconsistent. Ruan Smith plays in a very similar way to Scott Sio, only on the THP side, so I would take him.

At Super level he has been consistent.. Test level he has struggled. Ruan Smith should be like Sio last year with a good 20 - 30 at the end of games and if up to it get a few starts.

You also left out Aluera I'd have him on the bench in front of smiler. But its a nice team. I tgink fisher said Fardys too small for the second row under the new laws so might see a Fardy Poecock Mowen backrow..

Yeah, I saw Fisher said that but I also thought I saw him say that Fardy proved him wrong. If it weren't Fardy at 4 it would be Whetton and Mowen shifted to 8 so Fardy could play at 6.

It will probably be Auelua for the South Africa games, but Smiler showed his strength against the NZ teams.

I am really hoping to see Fotu fit and healthy and starting at No 8. At his best, he would be competing with Higgers for the Wallabies' spot. Think we have to wait to see Butler in action before pencilling him into the starting lineup. I also would like to see Matt at 12 and Christian at 10, but don't think Bernie sees it that way. I would also have Andrew Smith on the bench, probably at Clyde's expense as I see Pat being the backup 15 if Moggy gets injured.

Pretty ominous how Larkham said it's going to require ongoing monitoring.. The problem with the IRB is that they are overly stringent on guards/protective equipment which may assist those with neck prone injuries. I remember Brent Tate was in talks with the Reds a few years back but they collapsed because the IRB wouldn't allow him to wear his neck guard.

Obviously don't want to see it get to the NFL standards but fairly discrete guards like Tate's might require further examination in the future especially in cases like McCabe.

I am afriad I am from the school that says if you need to wear a neck guard/brace to play then you shouldn't be playing contact sport. The consequences of something going horribly wrong are far to great.
It is the players choice, we should respect that and assume that he is getting professional advice

It must be bloody hard for these players. It is easy to say it is only a game but it is what these blokes work for with immense effort and in the scale of the average life span there productive career time is only small. Pat McCabe strikes me as a smart young bloke and I am sure his decision is a well considered one. It is only him that has to live with the regrets of what could have been either way regarding his decisions so good on him.

Like many other players, I don't think we have seen the full diversity of what he is capable of and only what he has been asked of his coaches. I look forward to seeing his game in 2014 and maybe new expectations under new coaches.

After Huxley, I think they're extra careful. I know a few members who didn't go to a game for a while after seeing him spasm on the ground.
