I live in hope that Lilo will get back to his 2012 form, he was sensational in every department of the game. (And I am not a Brumbies supporter).

Ditto for me. But timing is everything in sport. If Foley has a blinder week after week for the Tahs there will be huge pressure to push him up the pecking order. Of course he could get injured and let Kurtley have a shot, or he could get second year syndrome. Timing is everything. And if Kurtley gets a run at 10 and burns up the field, he too could jump Lilo in the pecking order. The Tahs are potentially going to play a style of football that gets backs, particularly 10's, noticed.

The one thing we can say is that its great to have such depth at 10. What would Wales do to have a choice of Cooper, Lilo, Foley and Beale to play 10. At their best, all four of those players would play Biggar off the park. In saying that I am assuming To'omua is at 12, where we also have massive depth with Lilo, Godwin, Horne and Tapuai all in the wings. Its enough to make a Wallaby fan drool.

If only we had as much depth at Tight Head Prop.

How did we let Palmer go to France, he was easily the second best THP in Australia.

He was hands-down the best scrummager, though this season and last he was handicapped by foot injuries that required surgery. Around the park he was average but if he had been fit and had started the third Lions test it wouldn't have been the debacle it became.

For no more than half a season at a time. He never finished a season on two feet

Yipee.......

Wallabies forward Scott Fardy wants to extend his contract at the ACT Brumbies to remain under the coaching duo of Stephen Larkham and Laurie Fisher.

And there was also this last week:

BRUMBIES star Matt To'omua has declared his intention to re-sign with the ACT club, saying he will not ''shop around'' although his breakout Wallabies campaign has boosted his bargaining power.

Good to see those two want to stay in OZ rugby. Will put immense pressure on the Brumbies salary cap and you might see some departures due to it. We can take Lilo off your hands if you like :)

I also think the 'tahs list is equally interesting and will come under some scrutiny. You may be fine now, but with all your new wallabies n the team they will want more cash.

It all depends how close you were to the cap previously and whether any space frees up.

If you already were running close to the cap which is quite likely following signing Pocock on a big contract and then you have several players looking for an upgrade then you might struggle to keep everyone.

It is all relative. The Tahs have kept signing people but then they've also lost a couple of high priced players each year; Waugh, Burgess and Beale after 2011, Elsom, Mumm, Pretorius, Vickerman after 2012 and Barnes, Mitchell and Turner among others after 2013. There is probably also the realisation that with lots on Wallabies on the books, expectations have to be realistic.

The Brumbies have turned over Kimlin and Palmer who would have been on pretty substantial contracts you'd imagine. The other players they've lost like Holmes, Prior and Fainga'a would have probably been pretty cheap.

Fair point... still surprises. l have heard Larkham say the Brumbies were in a good place with reasonable contracts. We have lost good players over the last few years as well Gits, Elsom, Hooper, Kilmen but I suppose its how its managed

You would also think that for players such as Fardy & To'omua there are factors other than money in play so they might be being paid less than what you might think.

Yes the mercaneries will move on, but I think that the Brums might be building a culture/environment that is going to rely more on the setup than money to keep players. Just a thought.

I wouldn't have thought that Palmer was on much given he was a fringe Waratah when he was signed.

Fardy was on a $40K EPS contract in 2013, he is going to expect a substantial upgrade. Given his value to the club, another zero in the number probably won't be enough. That's going to put serious pressure on the other contracts to stay within the salary cap.

I think it is wholly unjustified to expect to pay people less than their market price and justify it on the basis of good culture and environment. Fardy was being paid less than $25 an hour for his Brumby time this year (assuming 9-10 months work in 2012/13 including pre-season). The current minimum wage is $17 per hour. To describe anyone not willing to accept a low-ball offer as a mercenary is just name-calling.
