Of course he has. I don't often swear, but what a fucking idiot.

Do you think that maybe they asked George Smith whether he was making himself available for Wallaby selection again and he said no?

The first stories about him coming back were saying that he had retired from test rugby and that was unlikely to change.

I wasn't expecting him to play for Australia on this brief return, however.........

Wallabies great George Smith will consider a return to Test rugby if coach Robbie Deans asks the flanker to make a comeback for the British and Irish Lions tour.

Rugby HQ last night had him saying he'd consider playing if they asked him.

Better be a good reason for it, otherwise one would be inclined to think we've swapped one &%$#head for another.....
We have (formerly) the best 7 in the world and now an incredible 6 who is an Australian, was the captain of the Wallabies, has played 110 games for Australia and plays for one of the Australian franchises. He has a contract with an overseas team which is willing to let him miss the pre-season to play for the Wallabies and in the finals for the Brumbies.

Refusing to even entertain the idea because he is paid by a foreign club as well is like not cheering for Mike Harris when he won us the second Wales test, because he is from New Zealand, or not having a steak because that fry pan was also used for mince.

I am sure that no Brumbies supporter expects George Smith to walk back into the Wallabies just on reputation.
Competition for the Wallaby's 7 shirt is torrid anyway.
But if he deserves it, why preclude him from selection.

Precluding him to make it may be silly (although I understand the good reason why), but expecting him to even make the Wallabies squad at this stage is just as silly. I would be shocked if he would.

Smith is unlikely to get in front of Pocock, Hooper or Gill for the openside position. He is small for a 6 or 8, and not a lineout jumper so the other 6 or 8 would have to be a lineout specialist.

As much as I love Smith, I would comfortably bet on him not playing for the Wobs against the Lions even if they considered him. Bench covering 6 to 8 would be the closest he would get.

At this stage it's unlikely he will play for the Wallabies so let's calm down.

He's here for 3 months and it must be noted that Suntory have provided a HUGE favour here and what they say must be respected.

Here are my player notes from the Brumby Runners v Samoa game

Ian Prior can find gaps and has a great long pass
Zach Holmes kicks well but long pass leaves something to be desired. Fell off of an easy tackle which lead to a try. Kicks well for the corner
Colby Fainga'a finds gaps well but can't break tackles, breaks the line and sets up a try, pressures well around the scrum, beautiful intercept
Robbie Coleman is a beautiful runner and tackler, catches well too
Siliva Siliva is great in support, don't know if the throws are bad or the calls
Leon Power is good in the line out
Jordan Smilier with a brilliant try saving tackle, great pressure around the scrum
Tom Cox is a great finisher
Tevita Kuridrani breaks tackles well
Mark Swanepoel passes too slow, leads to intercepts
Scott Sio breaks the line and scores

What a ridiculous article by Brett Harris. I suggest he has a look at the number of Wallabies at QLD/NSW getting ARU top ups and then have a whinge. I don't have a problem with NSW/QLD having those players BTW.

But if they are paying him less than market value to fit him in, you could argue they are gaining an unfair advantage.

I mean WTF?

The Reds took a punt on blokes like Samo and Robinson who repayed them back. Their actual worth far outweighed their market value. Perhaps NSW should be assigned a smaller salary cap because their players gain the fringe benefit of being able to live near the beach, etc. Harris is a loon.
