Being a one eyed rebel supporter, I find it interesting that these centralised contracts conversations are coming out now that it’s the tahs and brumbies who are in a pickle

Yeah or just keep going with super rugby but everyone plays each other twice so 22 game season, and if test players need to go play tests during it then so be it, that is when the other players step upI’ll keep saying it until it happens. Get rid of Super Rugby and start again. Everything, from zero. Just copy the NRL/AFL. Fuck sake it ain’t hard.
I don't think our Rebs are exactly tickety boo either...
A state government famous for sticking to their commitments around sports funding/events....We are in the same situation as the force, they have the richest person in the country holding them up we have the state govt & any short fall after that a bloke whose really good at selling denchers chips in

Not a comment on the specific politics, more a comment on the dependency upon a third party with their own own goals and motivations (the charity of a billionaire is not really much different in my mind).take it to the political board mate
$7 billion is a little different from the Rebels budget of three KFC buckets and a pack of smokesA state government famous for sticking to their commitments around sports funding/events....
After the last process which included the demise of the Western Force, I find it hard to have any faith in Rugby Australia. This seems to be thrown out there under the cover of the World Cup.
The Rebels have literally had more than $30m in support (pre-Covid) from RA - loans written off, Government funding diverted...$7 billion is a little different from the Rebels budget of three KFC buckets and a pack of smokes
yeah point proven, $30 million is a little easier to digest than $7 billion. The Rebels have literally had more than $30m in support (pre-Covid) from Rugby Australia - loans written off, Government funding diverted...
Every other club lives within their means more often than not. The Rebels are consistently rewarded for breaching the salary cap and going broke.
Rebels are not Victorian Rugby - privately owned franchise.yeah point proven, $30 million is a little easier to digest than $7 billion.
also a pretty paltry sum to invest in Australia’s biggest city, the risk compared to the potential pay off is worth it.

About the same time the $15m debt to RA was wiped.i’m pretty sure the license got handed back to RV about 4 or 5 years ago

F_______G Amen to thatI’ll keep saying it until it happens. Get rid of Super Rugby and start again. Everything, from zero. Just copy the NRL/AFL. Fuck sake it ain’t hard.
The two clubs are basically broke because the whole Super Rugby Structure over 20 years has pretty much sent them that way. The whole RA centralization thing is just waffle. It doesn't change the fact that Super Rugby is a death knell to the game here.Brumbies and Waratahs are broke…
there were warning signs for Brumbies last year when they cashed out a large chunk of their long term lease to cover operating costs.
Waratahs I’d assume would be financially better off now having secured a new training and administration facility long term through government grant, surprising they’re still facing financial strain
EXCLUSIVE: Alarming reality for Australian rugby with two Super Rugby clubs 'virtually broke' — Wide World of Sports
