Australian Rugby / RA

Let him go in respect of the crazy money he is paid, not for expressing his personal views on a particular subject, one as emotive as this. No player is worth the sort of money this bloke sucks out of rugby and 10% of the gross sum goes to the Church, his church. Therefore is RA indirectly supporting the Mormon faith are we as followers of RA, doing the same.

Pococock got away with plenty.

The game is bigger than either of these 2 (or any) players.

So now players how they justify how they spend their money?

If someone chooses to donate 10% of the wage to anything (religious or not) how is that anyone's business?

Personally, if I was Folau I'd tell RA to stick their contract up their a**e and sign with a French club for double the money, without the moral judgement and thought police. Of coure, he's too decent a man to use those terms.

STATEMENT REGARDING ISRAEL FOLAUAPRIL 17, 2018

Rugby Australia will not sanction Israel Folau for his comment posted on a social media platform on April 4.

Referring to an article written by Folau and published online overnight, Rugby Australia Chief Executive, Raelene Castle said: “In his article, Israel clearly articulated his religious beliefs and why his faith is important to him and has provided context behind his social media comment.

“In his own words, Israel said that he did not intend to upset people intentionally or bring hurt to the game. We accept Israel’s position.

“Rugby Australia will use this experience as an opportunity to remind all employees of their obligation to use social media in a respectful way.”

Although it seems that RA through Raelene have misreprested the contents of the meeting.
“After the meeting I went home, turned on the TV and was really disappointed with some of the things that were said in the press conference.
“I felt Raelene misrepresented my position and my comments, and did so to appease other people, which is an issue I need to discuss with her and others at Rugby Australia.
“That aside, I hope Raelene and Andrew appreciate my position, even if it differs with theirs.

I don’t think Folau can leave behind the moral judgement...........

I don’t think Folau can leave behind the moral judgement.....

He lives behind moral judgement every day of his life. Not strange, everyone does. Though he does intentionally and within his religious convictions and at the moment very much in the public eye.

You dont have to agree with his convictions, his religious beliefs or even religion at all. But comments here have reached a tipping point when they are suggesting an employer should cut someone’s wages on the basis of how they spend them, let alone prohibit donations of any kind let alone a religious tithe.

Hang on - did he draw a wage from Australia while not playing in Australia?

This is also for the billionth time - he negotiated a 3 year deal which had the sabbatical in the middle year. Whatever he got paid (he might have told you but he hasn't told me) recognised 2 years of playing and a sabbatical but the payments were spread over the 3 years.

This kind of thing happens in almost everyone's salary package where 48 weeks wages are spread over 52 weeks.

Okay. It's been a day since the announcement re Folau. It's now off limits again.

Brad Weber (and a few other players) may have just reignited it...........

The Kiwis are essentially beating us both on and off the field.

And it looks like we're about to lose one of our sponsors.
