Oh Mona
Do you mean fit again, as in free from injury, or fit again, as in, lost weight? Serious question.
Meyer is of the opinion that Steyn has played too much rugby, and wants him rested. Problem is if he wasnt in the squad he would be obliged to play for the struggling bulls in the CC, and not get any rest. This way he gets it.
Havnt been this excited for a bok game in ages!!!
http://www.sport24.co.za/Rugby/RugbyChampionship/Meyer-picks-Goosen-at-No-10-20120926Stats and facts:
• Saturday’s Test will be the 76th between South Africa and Australia. Of these, the Springboks have won 41, lost 33 and drawn one.
• The two teams have played 37 Tests against each other in The Castle Rugby Championship. The Springboks won 17, lost 19 with one match drawn. Points for: 796; Points against: 865; Tries for: 73; Tries against: 86; Average score: 22-23.
• Since 1933 the Springboks have played only five test matches against Australia at Loftus Versfeld and were triumphant in all five. In 1997 South Africa scored their highest ever total number of points against Australia (61) at this venue.
• South Africa’s record against Australia at Loftus: Played 5; Won 5; Points for 161; Points against 87; Tries for 17; Tries against 9; Average score 32-17.
• Bryan Habana is the most capped Springbok wing with 80 Tests and also holds the records for most tries in all Tests by a Springbok (43) and most tries by a Springbok in this competition (10).
• Habana needs one try to equal Breyton Paulse’s record of seven career tries in tests against Australia.
• Jean de Villiers, the most capped Springbok centre with 64 Tests in this position, will become only the seventh Springbok to reach 80 Tests for South Africa. This will also be his 20th Test against Australia.
• Johan Goosen, who made his Bok debut in Perth earlier this month aged 20 years, 1 month and 12 days, is the fourth youngest player to play Test rugby for the Springboks since readmission in 1992. The youngest was Frans Steyn (19 years, 5 months, 28 days), followed by Chiliboy Ralepelle (19 years, 11 months, 15 days) and Pat Lambie (20 years and 20 days).
• The referee for this Test is Alain Rolland (Ireland), who has refereed in 14 Tests involving South Africa. The Springboks won eight of those tests and lost six. Rolland, together with Steve Walsh of Australia, are currently the two referees who have refereed the most Test matches involving South Africa.
Springbok overall Test match records at Loftus Versfeld:
• Most points – 31 by Percy Montgomery (2t, 9c, 1p) in 1998 against Wales.
• Most tries – 3 by Danie Gerber in 1982 against South America and by Pieter Rossouw in 1998 against Wales.
• Most conversions – 9 by Percy Montgomery in 1998 against Wales.
• Most penalty goals – 6 by Gerald Bosch in 1975 against France and by Braam van Straaten in 2000 against England.
• Most drop goals – 1 by each of five players.
I assume they go from SA Argentina so moore's hammy tear must e a good one!I was led to believe TPN was an injury liability and Moore wasn't.
Gotta have some sympathy/empathy for Deans.Just read some comments from Deans and Robinson which give the impression that the whole cooper things has galvanized the group over the last few days. Im hoping those reports are true and the team put up a good team performance this weekend.
To be honest with our injury list I dont think this is a game we can actually win. Nothing shameful about losing to the boks at loftus, let alone with a virtual 2nd 15. What id like to see is a performance we can be proud of. I want to see us test the boks.
This is a real banana peel game for Deans. A respectable, close loss will be tolerated. a thrashing will mean the final nail in the coffin
We are about to see the new generation Bokke coming through. Lambie, Taute, Goosen, Etsebet, Jantjies, Coetzee, Malherbe will start this. Many to follow. Finally Meyer get on the right track of building something very special. After giving him so much grief I'll take my hat off and give him full credit for willing to change. Now we need to timber on the gameplan, but at the least with Goosen there, he have the tools to do just that.
Like you qouted earlier he obvious have to have his numbers right. I'll accept Kirschner who played well enough in the last two. JdJ probably the only other option within the sqaud, look like he obvious have a liking for Taute and left him with no other choise. Kolisi will give him some breathing space when he returns. As long as he get back on the winning road he wont go through pressure and thats what needs to happen this weekend. IF we can win the next two it will be great.Except for Lambie and Brussow that's the best mob we can put on the turf.
I doubt that our loose forward trio will deviate from 6Flow 7Alberts 8Vermeulen the coming years, barring injury. Flow > Brussow for mine. I Really do Like Coetzee though.. and he would be next inline to grab a spot, definately before Siya if theres an injury to 6/7.he obvious have to have his numbers right. Kolisi will give him some breathing space when he returns.
