    Australian Rugby / RA

My guess is that RUPA is trying to force Castle out as part of the negotiations - Harrison is part of the Kafer Krew me thinks

Maybe she knows they will always ask for more - so a 50% cut was a good opening gambit. And while the players are stood down, I imagine she is working harder than she ever has.

    Australian Rugby / RA

Essentially RUPA are saying - we’ve seen the books and we don’t think RA needs to make any player salary cuts to remain afloat OR we don’t care how bad the books are, we aren’t missing out and we aren’t helping. Pretty extraordinary

    Australian Rugby / RA

Via SMH: RA proposing 65% pay cuts - less than league and netball more than AFL. Players want the cuts held in a trust with them paid later to players or to use for community rugby. Also want a clause to break contract if not happy with the final agreed cut. RA has said no to both. Putting...

    Australian Rugby / RA

Re Bob Dwyer. I get the sentiment. But what I think people forget is that pro rugby has been funded by the same model since the beginning of professionalism - same comps - same broadcaster Breaking away from that model is very risky Reigning CEOs aren’t normally up for taking those types of...

Some big calls being made here - solid contacts I presume?

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

The Australian today reporting some quotes from interim Chair McLean referring to the broadcast deal process - "there's a band of participants" and "its a bit more widespread than people think". this is in regards to those who signed onto the non-disclosure part - i don't think bidding has...

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

If the National Club Comp is in addition to Shute/QPR, then it does become a big commitment for amateur club players.

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

The Australian says it will replace Shute and QPR - whilst the Courier Mail says it will run after Shute and QPR - both articles attributed to the same author. Go figure!!!

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

Classic wedge tactic by Fox. Fox know that getting Sydney Club rugby at that price is VERY cheap content (especially if they lose the Super Rugby/Test bid). By blocking the bundling they can continue to low ball RA by claiming they are bringing no new content (Super Rugby content is dropping next year and there's...

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

some observations - fox must be plenty worried about Optus considering they have mobilised a bunch of News Ltd assets (including ex Fox CEO Hartigan today) against RA. They probably thought they could get away with cutting the numbers and still securing the sport. well done to RA for finding...

    Super Rugby 2020

The Jan start will only be for 2020. Once the comp reverts to 14 teams and single round, it will drop from 19 rounds to 16 rounds (assuming they still have two byes)

    Reds 2020

Not having grown up in Bris I don’t have an affiliation with club rugby (however Mr 7 is running around at Easts)... I was quite pleasantly surprised by the standard of the GF (watched the replay on Kayo). Jock Campbell really impressed - hope to see some of that poise and play for Reds next...

    Reds 2020

Since we know about Speight and O’Connor I can’t imagine there are many big names to announced (except if Samu got out of Japan contract)

2019 TV ratings and crowd numbers

I always had a suspicion it was Kiwi’s in Oz propping up our tv numbers. Lol.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

SA play Super Rugby (or Pro14), then for the last two years the Supersport Rugby Challenge, and then they played Currie Cup. Way too much rugby for those provincial teams involved in all three comps.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

RE: NZR attitude to Oz decline What do you think would happen to Oz crowds, viewers and broadcast deals if the Test team and Super Rugby teams won >85% of all games we played against NZ, year in and year out? Do you think RA would be happy with this? Do you think RA would be concerned at NZ rugby's...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

They aren’t “getting onboard”. They aren’t interested in our issues. They are happy with our decline.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Here’s B.Pulver at the announcement of the last broadcast deal "And it reflects, I think, the growing status we enjoy in the Australian sporting landscape. I'm confident that that sort of trend will continue.” And "The ARU will have surplus funds to re-invest in the game from grassroots...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

So don’t expect a trans Tasman comp to ever eventuate. Oz has unfortunately become almost a beggar - living off deals whose value is derived largely from the inclusion of SA and NZ. We have lost the fight in Oz. We are shrinking. We are more reliant than ever on others.
