State of the Union (origin) discussion

The big thing to remember was that no one really wanted State of Origin at the time in 1980. Clubs were against it spectators weren't keen. It was actually the push from promoters. That first series was actually played under two separate criteria NSW wouldnt agree to players going back to play...

State of the Union (origin) discussion

SMH saying that all players will be eligible to play SoU. Original list of players eligible to both NSW and QLD based on first club. For those with no affiliation to either QLD or NSW they will go into a draft and can then be selected. While I’m not a fan of this, I reiterate this simply looks...

State of the Union (origin) discussion

As I noted earlier the casual sports fan has no interest in watching two franchises who have been relatively irrelevant over the past few years in Super Rugby play. These teams are clearly a step up from the two current squads, the plan is it would be on free to air, the strength of those squads...

Id take the NSW forwards for the Wallabies also maybe just the swap of Isi for Swinton.

State of the Union (origin) discussion

Interestingly the article suggests that eligibility has already been worked out and lists compiled hence the above teams. That would be a cracking affair if these are the teams. The eligibility criteria has been worked through and Rugby Australia already has a list of players who qualify for...

State of the Union (origin) discussion

Would love to see Harry Wilson in a NSW Jersey.... NSW 1 Scott Sio 2 Folau Fainga'a 3 Allan Ala'alatoa 4 Matt Philip 5 Lukhan Salakaia-Loto 6 Lachlan Swinton 7 Michael Hooper (pictured above, right) 8 Harry Wilson 9 Nic White 10 Will Harrison 11 Tom Wright 12 Bill Meakes 13 Reece Hodge 14 James...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

More likely the Super 8 concept could operate in a hub over a few weeks after the domestic comps.

State of the Union (origin) discussion

I remember when origin first started in league in the 80s and at the time the rhetoric was the same, that it was a gimmick, we didn’t need it, no one would be interested etc. Some times you have to take a chance on something. I enjoyed the banter and feeling in the lead up to the Tahs Reds game...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

I see it as more of the latter, a built to boost TV revenue game. Therefore they would want to get as many of the best players eligible to play the highest quality match. This would mean relaxing the eligibility rules to accommodate the many. Problem with this is it's hard to generate any true...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

It is actually what you answer yes to as a majority. 6 questions of which State of birth is one with no greater or lesser weight than the others (excluding father/son rule). If you were born in QLD but the answer to all others is NSW then you are only eligible for NSW. Luke Keary although born...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

NRL is not based on state of birth. It lends more to schooling and where you played junior football. Any number of instances where players have represented the other state they were actually born in due to schooling and junior footy allegiances.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

So the State of Union concept will be based on State of birth according to SMH reports. That will make selections a little harder. A number have changed states for school or moved from NZ, PI or other states for junior footy and beyond. Will they be able to come with two highly talented teams...

    Wallabies 2020

Wright looked good when he came on as a replacement pre-COVID against the Tahs on the right wing and then went on to score a double. 15 is starting look a bit uncertain. DHP's injury means we might not see him again this campaign, at best he will be under done. Banks early form has completely...

    Australian Rugby / RA

QH, Im not sure how a 10 team domestic semi professional model helps entice kids to play union over league. Yes more options but less money to contract them and put them through and develop them. Seems a step backwards. We have hung onto the majority of juniors successfully over the last few...

    Waratahs 2021

It is really weird. He actually looked good in the A games before shutdown. He was outplaying Walton and was a handful in midfield in each of the games I watched.

Super Rugby AU Round 6 - Waratahs vs Reds @ SCG, Saturday 8 August 2020

I honestly think the game the previous week took. It out of both teams. Neither the Reds or Brums had any intensity about them, both came up shirt in defence and their basic skills were well below usual. Surely can’t be a coincidence. Great fir the competition as now it really opens it back up.

Did they let their skills coach go too? Because the execution and handling has been very poor
