I look at the decline of the Waratahs We have seen the Waratahs along with rugby's brand slowly declined in popularity in NSW over the last 20 Years, why is that. It simply has not been able to compete with the other codes for eyeballs and players & supporters, why is that. What do the other...

Probably less than as a province before Super Rugby, but completely irrelevant to 2023

Sorry, but I don't think they are easy fixes. They require Vision, planning, financials, sacrifice, complete change of direction, expertise, something the RA have shown little ability to do over the last 20 years.

    Melbourne Rebels 2024

NSW should be a powerhouse, but the years of inclusion in Super Rugby have ensured that they can no longer achieve that. No local Derbies only 6 or 7 games yearly in your own market constantly changing competition structure Never being in control of you own roster increased competition from...

While I agree with your sentiment whole heartedly, especially regards removal from Super Rugby, I am just unsure how you fund a domestic competition, you would need at least 2 new teams and maybe a continuation of the Drua, but where does the money come from, what is the plan.

But that cash injection will never go to the grassroots, because it will forever be needed to sustain a structure that simply does not generate enough interest or support to be viable to pay, the game is operating at a cost level in Australia that it cannot sustain.

But when have they spent that money on grassroots development, maybe they should take some of that money and help out the Rebels. But they won't so what does the code then gain from that $50 million Your missing my point,

The problem you have with Melbourne paying apparently $50M for World cup fixtures is once again you are ignoring your primary markets. Melbourne gets its show but come the following Monday its goes straight back to AFL land. Its death by a thousand cuts, when every decision you make is ruled...

Those maximized profits from both the Lions & World cups will barely pay back the potential 120 million debt they will incur up to 2027 The issue rugby has is what happens then

This is the great dilemma of rugby in Aus, when all your eggs are put in the Wallaby basket. In comparison the AFL/NRL have 18 each of there own Wallaby versions that ensures every year they have a successful Wallaby team to grow there codes.

Well that fits into the whole Super Rugby playbook then. exactly what is the point of its existence.

No growth codes, you mean the code that's gonna get a $4 billion stadium come 2032 in rugby heartland, you think there hasn't been some pretty serious back office talk, coupled that with a juniors program that will probably see it rival league here for presence. As for Rugby Union, ffs we'll...

    Australian Rugby / RA

You would hope not, but when was the last time a project of this size came in at the initial forecast. Where do you draw the line, I'm sure the AFL are more than happy, I mean how can they lose. One of the last hold outs, but hey we just got a $4 billion stadium. The RA aren't even spectators...

    You'd hope so for $4 Billion :p

And look at the big f----g white elephant that left them, the new Gabba is predicted at $2.7 Billion. So if its built will probably cost around $4 Billion, great just what we need in Brisbane.

I for one hope they pull out, but doubt they will. The Olympics are very quickly losing there luster, and can easily see it leaving a nice $Multi Billion debt for the taxpayer all for a two week spectacle. For starters there is nothing wrong with the Gabba, its a great ground for cricket &...

While I understand your sentiment, that by definition is ultimately accepting your own demise. Yes the game flows down from the Wallabies in Australia, the main reason why it is struggling so much, however that strategy for growth moving forward will become harder & harder to achieve especially...

Then why after 25 years, growing tribalism, rivalry, local derbies etc etc and with Super rugby it appears the exact opposite is happening. Every 2-3 years they have been shoving a new coat of paint on Super Rugby, but nothing changes. The problem with so many of the doubters on here say "yes...

I agree with this, the existing clubs never appeared interested in stepping up (that's another story) but how do we move forward then, when our primary product is not fit for purpose. I would argue the best option moving forward would be to use the existing 5 franchises and aim to add 3 teams...
