There were always options. It was the best option for a pay TV operator who made a killing, who conned a sporting code that thought it was the next f_____g roman empire walking around starry eyed believing all the crap about global domination. 25 years later the only thing Super Rugby has...

This part I agree with, the game went from amateur to professional over night night and along with it came wages the game had not earned yet. To pay for things they had to monetize Test rugby, and introduced Super rugby to support that, the issue was it was never fit for purpose or ever allowed...

The difference between the other codes and rugby Union is the business model that the Melbourne Rebels operate under. the competition stucture they play limits the ability to generate outside interest to invest.

To an extent, but apart from the Crusaders and traditional derbies, Super Rugby is hardly hitting any KPI's in NZ either. And if that is correct, why do we belong to something that is very good for NZ but crap for us.

They should be blaming the RA for continuing to include them in a competition not fit for purpose. There is no tribalism, scheduling is crap, basically just Test trial teams, no genuine growth, how do you sell membership when you can't guarantee your best players will be playing. and 100 other...

The game won't survive without the Kiwis, why Is that because they are just to weak by themselves, yet the games whole growth strategy here is to be regularly number one/two in the world for the game to grow within Australia, yet we won't survive without the Kiwis. Maybe about time the game...

None of that makes sense it's just classic banging a square peg into a round hold and then wondering why it all goes belly up. After 20 years they have learnt basically nothing. The biggest market ever available to the RA is its own domestic market, but for 20 years now they have been to...

Not a failed experiment, they no longer exist. Just another Super Rugby look they have money we want some get rich quick scheme

Yeah, because having a Japanese team play there home games in Singapore against South African teams was a much smarter move.

Yes, but Rugby Union is far more entrenched than in Australia, where we are at best 4-5th most popular sport. Without domestic growth, It doesn't matter how many Test matches you play if no one is watching them.

Then maybe the game needs to look at the Test Window schedule, because not have players available from July essentially prevents you from producing an attractive domestic competition. This prevents the game from growing a better domestic support base, that is fine if Test matches can support...

Exactly, Super rugby is the issue and why the clubs are all failing. The whole model is unsustainable and will ultimately collapse, and along with it so will rugby in this country.

    Melbourne Rebels 2024

The problem is vested or self interest of those involved, as this is essentially glorified trial teams for each other national teams, there is no genuine push for change as for lack of a better description, the boat maybe sinking but everyone is getting paid. If the clubs were separate private...

One of the problems with Super rugby expansion was it was always just a money grab with little thought of how things would work or how they related to any specific supporter base, the competition itself never really grew in value it was simply just adding content, there was never any...

I agree with Half to a certain extent, the main point is again the structure of each code. Super Rugby is simply not fit for purpose for Australian rugby as such the game is declining in popularity due to it, and we have been over those reasons a thousand times. The A league operators may not...

The Mercure Hotel they've brought is probably the closest accommodation to Sunshine Coast stadium, about 3 k's away, the stadium is relatively new (good stadium) cap about 12,000/15,000 has had upgrades and further ones due to accommodate 32 Olympics, also several NRL games throughout the year...

None of that is stopping you from running a domestic competition that you control and run at a level that you can afford and drive as much growth as possible. You can have both worlds. "They are not mutually exclusive"

Rugby has had plenty of money thrown at it over the years, It is not the answer, that is the convenient excuse.
