    Wallabies Watch

I really do not understand how anyone could watch Palu last Friday and think he isn't the best option at 8. I have a lot of time for Fotu Aluea, but Palu consistently bends the line, offloads and does key work in defense. I don't think it's even remotely a coincidence that Hooper and Dennis were...

    Reds v Brumbies - RD10 2013

Yeah, that was a tricky one because the first YC was pretty debatable and he was off the field for the warning. He got the red very quickly after he came on, IIRC. I wonder if he even knew about the warning? Should have, but his actions suggested otherwise.

Waratahs vs Chiefs Super Rugby Rd 10, Fri 19 April 2013

It's never possible to eliminate human error and that's something we should all accept. Rugby has a pretty good balance -- 2 phases and only at the referee's request is more than sufficient, I think. Otherwise, where do you draw the line? 5 phases? 10? It's always frustrated when a true error is...

Yeah, just thinking about the crowds and fans.

Bulls vs Waratahs - Super Rugby Rd11 2013

I think it's a shame we have the road trip now. It would be GREAT to have another home game after that gutsy Chiefs win. I think we might even get a decent crowd. To carry the excitement through, the team really needs to win both games and then have the Stormers match have some real weight to it.

Horwill's STOMP and claims the Reds weren't penalised enough

I probably shouldn't have lumped the two articles together that way. I agree with your distinction. And Scott has been supportive of the Brumbies play. But I do think it's not a great look overall (although worse for the Canberra Times!).

Horwill's STOMP and claims the Reds weren't penalised enough

I'm not criticising the quality of his analysis at all. It's excellent. I think it's great that we get high calibre writing like that. I'm just saying it LOOKS like sour grapes wen a fan spends a few thousand words critiquing the ref. it doesn't matter how many caveats are there. As a neutral I...

Horwill's STOMP and claims the Reds weren't penalised enough

Everyone still whining about this or that call is tarnishing a great game of rugby, IMO. Lots of us, me included, had problems with the refereeing in that game but I reckon both Scott's article and this stuff from the Canberra Times look, at this point, like sour grapes -- regardless of whether...

Bulls vs Waratahs - Super Rugby Rd11 2013

Hasn't dropped one all season. I suppose that might happen this game, but if that's the Bulls' strategy, I feel better already.

    Reds v Brumbies - RD10 2013

Goodfellow, methinks the saucy knave had a cup of sack too much and was betook by the choler. 'Tis not so much a sin.

Is it time to change the name of the Waratahs?

I agree to an extent. My group is there every week, unless something personal forces us out. But there are plenty of "members" who supposedly sit around us and are never, ever seen. On the other hand, Sydney is a phenomenally competitive sports market. Two AFL teams, A-League, nine NRL...

    Wallabies Watch

I haven't watched a replay and those bloody yellow-on-white numbers were impossible to read at the ground, but Folau smashed one of the Chiefs' locks (I think). Bloke had a full head of steam, saw a back and thought he'd run over him but Folau was having none of it. One of the best moments of...

    Wallabies Watch

A much better kicking game, obviously. Mogg is a deceptive runner who instinctively finds space and knows how to vary his speed and angles to maximise half-gaps. Folau has some of that, but is better once some contact is made. He shakes off a lot of tackles. My feeling is that Mogg would be a...

    Horwill's captaincy

This will sound counter-intuitive, but you can't judge the decision based on the outcome. You have to judge it within the context of that point in the game. What is more valuable for the Reds? A definite 3 points or a 5m lineout? My guess is that with 15 minutes left, it's a definite 3 points...

    Reds v Brumbies - RD10 2013

Sorry mate, poorly expressed. I wasn't trying to single out Reds fans in general or compared to any other fan base. They were just the ones complaining in the comments. It was meant more as a compliment to the posters here.

TOCC point this out somewhere, but he made a short-term sacrifice in order to ensure long-term success.

    Horwill's captaincy

Just looking at last night's game, would Genia have done any different? He took at least one ill-advised quick tap. I think the Reds had a game plan and stuck to it a bit too fanatically.

    Reds v Brumbies - RD10 2013

Nope, I listed all the ones without objective, intelligent, good-looking fans.

    Reds v Brumbies - RD10 2013

Fans of the Brumbies, Force and Rebels are shameful too.

    Horwill's captaincy

I thought his decision not to take the 3 from right in front with 15 to go cost them the win. With that much time left and clear ascendancy, you take the points and keep the pressure on. On the TV it sounded like the crowd started to boo, assuming they'd take the points, and the roared when they...
