This makes sense to me. Hopefully Timani is cover for the shifting of positions that will occur if Palu gets hurt (i.e. Higgers to 8 and Mowen/Dennis to 6). I'd really much prefer Simmons partnered with Horwill unless Douglas recovers in time.

Ignoto, the question of whether the best players in Australia play the way Deans wants the team to play is a good one to ask. I'd take Palu but share your concerns there. I don't think Deans is a good test coach, nor do I particularly like his game plan or all his selections to fulfill it. All...

I recall all those debates quite well. I also recall being shouted down for suggesting, with some such as yourself, that his pre-RWC extension was a bad idea. But some people here seem to be suggesting that his choices are utter lunacy. That's not quite true. They're just founded on premises...

I'm very much not in the pro-Deans club (is there one still?), but I do think there is often a certain kind of logic to his selections. Experience over form, direct over flashy, reliably over mercurial, loyalty, a preference for size and strength and so on. As Scott Allen did on the latest...

I think this is exactly why Lilo was picked -- playmaking cover off the bench if JOC (James O'Connor) or Barnes goes down. Without one of those two, the playmaking is pretty limited.

Braveheart81 was sitting next to me and noted that the Brumbies never lined up with Palu at the front. He's not a great jumper, but he's pretty damn reliable when uncontested! Such an obvious weakness for the Tahs in recent weeks that it's baffling they didn't make it more of a battle...

Digby is surely the back-up's back-up 13, then the Badger. As for JOC (James O'Connor), Deans has said that he's got the jumper, but I think we'll see a fair bit of Barnes in there from 15.
