    Force 2018

I think they had the right idea with the Rebels with regards to international players, but they needed to be better players and allowed to stick around for longer. The Rebels have lost too many players who seemed to want to stick around including Ellison, Delve and Robinson. These were all...

    Force 2018

Out of stupidity more like it. I can't understand why the ARU didn't financial controls in place after the first additional money needed to be spent. These controls should have been made stronger the more times money needed to be invested to the point where the Rebels (and other teams in the...

    Force 2018

I personally think that if you compare the initial Rebels Squad to the the initial Force Squad that the Force Squad was materially stronger in both players who had already played and players who were then to become very strong players.

    Force 2018

Yeah, but they were pretty average players. I would believe the Force's initial squad was much stronger than the Rebels. Part of this would have been going from 3 to 4 teams would get you better players than 4 to 5 teams.

    Force 2018

Firstly, the Force have not been treated fairly at any point during their existence. But the Rebels didn't get a massive leg up like you think. You mention internationals like they were great players. Have you looked at the Rebels 2011 initial squad? Our internationals were - Michael...

    Rebels 2018

The one "why the #&*$ do I come to these games" was definitely the game against the Waratahs. $^&* we threw that game away - completely.

    Force 2018

Hmmm ... I think corruption is a bit of a strong accusation. Incompetence, perhaps. Clear focus on NSW and Qld, of course. Clearly, they have had some sort of view that they wanted the Rebels to be privately owned. It failed once but they were so committed to the idea (maybe because that is...

    Rebels 2018

I wouldn't be surprised if the ARU is coughing up more than 50% of the $800k. As you said, nowhere else for him to go. Hopefully you are right on the Force players and they will be playing for the Force. If not, I'd expect to see at least half of them stick around in Australia.

    Force 2018

As I continually tell the sales teams I work with, having opportunities and discussions with clients is great but in the end all that counts is the results (dollars in the P&L). 6 wins is 6 wins and I doubt that the Force would have been putting that as their target for 2017 at the start of the...

    Rebels 2018

I'm trying to think of a bigger signing for the Rebels than Genia. - Beale - probably a bigger signing at the time based on he won the John Eales medal the year before. Result at the Rebels - played less than half the games available due to injuries and suspension. - O'Connor - probably not a...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

I'll be a Rebels member. Go to all the games that I can. I want rugby in Melbourne. Also if the Force don't appear next year, I think it will be disrespectful to Force fans to stop going.

So Dockers or Eagles for you? :p

    Australian Rugby / RA

I grew up in Tassie. Had no idea about Rugby (either code). Went to ANU and dated a girl from a Rugby Union family and over time was converted. Did my time in Sydney and ended in Melbourne. Loved the World Cup in 2003. Great. Then the period of discontent. Some years we didn't even get...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Massively down My understanding is that there is a strong view that this last round of broadcast rights was the high point globally. In Australia, 10 is in administration. 9 has been firmly told that they overspent on cricket. Ratings are down. For SuperRugby, it seems materially worse...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

You misread. He said that "There will be a clear pathway for young Western Australian rugby players" and will offer free flights to Sydney so that they can go along the pathway to be Wallabies.

    Australian Rugby / RA

There are 3 ways to do it. The first is the VFL/AFL method which would involve taking the Shute Shield, expanding to incorporate teams outside of Sydney and cutting some of the Sydney teams. Of course, this has been tried a number of times with expansion to Canberra, Newcastle, Illawarra and...

It would be fun though .... He is also looking at getting rid of his whole fortune ...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Assume you mean VRU. Twiggy could come to the VRU with his whole fortune and they'd tell him to bugger off. Of course, if he really wanted to, he could set up a "rebel" rugby competition. The ARU run on just over $80 million a year - he is estimated to be worth 6.84 billion - so that is...
