New Zealand vs Australia - Bledisloe 2, 24th August 2013

Folau is a big unit who hits hard and wraps up the ball. He's made some phenomenal try-savers because he gives the attacking player limited opportunities to ground or offload the ball. He did it to Savea on Saturday and North in the first BIL test. My only worry with him at fullback is...

Where did we go wrong? Wallaby Recovery thread.

Thanks, Lindo. That had passed me by, like a ship in the night.

Where did we go wrong? Wallaby Recovery thread.

These new scrum laws are creating uncertainty at the moment, because we just don't really know who is going to perform best under them. I think Link should experiment a little bit to figure out who actually does well in games. That includes putting Slipper at THP and giving Robbo a run. Even...

Something needs to happen in the scrums. We look better with Kepu on than Alexander, IMO. Whether Robbo would make a difference is hard to say, but rotating Sio to find out would be very wise. I can't help but think that experienced campaigners like Woodcock have adjusted very well to the new laws.

Our scrum has been a shit show under the new rules. I'm not sure that Benn would have made things better or made the worse, but bringing him back into the fold might be wise at this point.

Great sports journalism is amongst the best writing around. Guys like Gideon Haigh, for example. But sadly, it's often dribble that we get in the dailies.

I, for one, wish I lived in Chris Rattue's alternate universe.

That article is moronic on a whole range of levels, not least of which is comparing a 6 year stretch against the Wallabies to a 12 year stretch against France.

    Beale to Tahs, where?

Strong back line, thinnest pack we've had a for a while. If Beale goes into 15 and Folau goes to 11, he needs to have that Digby-style "roving commission" with Crawford playing the more traditional style.

    Beale to Tahs, where?

Kyle Godwin will be immense. I'm predicting he'll displace Lealiifano (or whoever) in the next 18 months.

It's not about Drew's attacking statistics. He made some very poor errors, often in bunches, that gave up tries or put the team under enormous pressure.

    Beale to Tahs, where?

Personally, I'm glad to see him back. Yes, he's been a bit of a dickhead, but it seems to me that he has an alcohol and discipline problem, rather than the JOC (James O'Connor)-esque egomania. I hope Cheika can help with the latter, because it's how to deal with the former too. We've all seen what Beale can do...

I assume you mean the Tahs v Lions, which was one of his only quality games all season.

New Zealand vs Australia - Bledisloe 2, 24th August 2013

I've been trying really hard lately not to get the shits with the ref. It's tough in rugby because there is so much grey in the interpretation of the laws. I find that if I take a big fat breath after the game is over, think about why it was won or lost, and then try to reflect on specific...

New Zealand vs Australia - Bledisloe 2, 24th August 2013

It really just depends on framing. Sure, a bunch of people will jump up and down about "not aiming to win every game". But that's a fairly juvenile position to take -- of course they're trying to win every game! I just think it was a mistake for Link to talk up the return of attacking, exciting...

New Zealand vs Australia - Bledisloe 2, 24th August 2013

That's not really fair. Link's only had one game. But he would have been wiser to set lower expectations, talk about the amount of work required, and point out that great teams are built with time, patience, and commitment to development.

New Zealand vs Australia - Bledisloe 2, 24th August 2013

Who is really having a go at Link? It seems more like a lot of meta-criticism -- discussion of whether and when criticism would / could / should be warranted. Bloody pointless.

Bloody hell. Another 13-15 injuries like that and we might just steal the Bled back.
