Wallabies Squad - the Link Era

To'omua's lower touch rate is also indicative of White's game plan at the Brumbies. I'd expect him to see more of the ball for the Wallabies, although I agree that we are likely to see a tighter game than if Quade were selected.

Just quietly, I think George Smith not doing so well against the Lions might have had something to do with the concussion he sustained in the first minutes of the match.

To be fair, Kimlin was hurt and Speight's not eligible.

I don't really care if this ACC fellow is bored. I'm much more interested in the AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) who is the best 13 in Australia.

And I'm sure after he's poor at test level yet again, he'll again be fine at Super level.

Yep. And it's possible that Robbo was simply bad under the new rules. That, to my mind, is the only reason for dropping him that actually makes sense. It will be very interesting to see what happens.

I've got mixed feelings about Beale. I'm hoping he has to prove his place in the side. Betham-Folau-Crawford is a strong and varied back three. They all performed well. Foley is surely untouchable at 10 for now.

I totally agree that we needed a change in the scrum. I'm just astounded that Ben Alexander wasn't the casualty. His last performance in gold was an absolute atrocity.

So much for the theory that 2 props on the bench would encourage specialization. Link has picked one LHP specialist and 3 both-side props -- all of whom have been playing THP all season.

Frankly, the "it's for motivational reasons" argument for the dropping of Robinson is utterly nonsensical. If it's a "kick in the butt," what's he supposed to do? Work is butt off at training... Oh. Play well in Super Rugby... Oh. Robinson got cut, straight out. It's either because a) he has...

"It's a shame we don't play in summer. Cricket Australia is more in our league."

So, basically, "Hope. 2014." Or maybe, "Try. 2014." I can see those on the back of taxis.

It would certainly make more sense than talking about it in a thread about Link's squad selection.

Wallabies Squad - the Link Era

It was striking during the Lions series that Australia wasn't able to control the breakdown or obtain much turnover ball. Compared to what we're used to with Pocock and Smith before him, it marked a real change. Hooper isn't strong enough or big enough to influence the game there -- and...

I love Sio's work. I think it's very possible he'll unseat Fat Cat as the preferred LHP in the next 12-24 months. But I don't think it'll happen this season unless Robbo's form slides dramatically. Even if Sio is super effective off the bench, Link will want Robbo's experience for 50-60 minutes...

Cat_A: Wonderful post. One of the best I've read on this forum. Clicking "Like" was not even remotely enough.

Great signing. Some more starch was badly needed. We were very thin in the back row last season and would have been again, if (or when) Palu misses 4-5 games.

November 26 seems to be a date that's bandied around a bit.

2013 Super Rugby Final - CHIEFS v BRUMBIES

When the Brumbies were on 19, I said to a mate they'd need another 10 to win because the Chiefs would definitely score tries. Then the Chiefs showed why they're back to back champs. They adjusted their game very astutely and made the most of their chances. It's great to see the Super Rugby...

It might also help explain his poor statistical performance this season, particularly his crappy tackle percentage.
