    Scrum Talk

IF you watched the AB vs BOks on saturday night you may have noticed that there were very few resets and very few collapses. Teh scrum was a real contest. Why? Because unlike the situation in Australia they have proper props not converted backrowers. Australian props are mainly Frankensteins...

    2012 IRB Junior World Championship

Have been following this forum but only just got to see replays of Aust 20s against France (the first time) and versus the argies. Followed this with watching Sth Africa vs Argentina. Massive difference in standard between Aust and SA. I offer the following thoughts on Aust Front row...

    2012 IRB Junior World Championship

Dont think so. Three colts from SYdney University and one colt from Western Suburbs!!! Have overlooked about 5 players who are regular first and second grade players in Sydney.

    aus front row

Agree. I luv the scrums. The problem that people have with them i.e. collapses and resets, is largely an Australian phenomenah brought on by years of selecting non-props i.e. those that are poor scrummagers, as props e.g. Tilse, Ryan, Daley - even Slipper, because of their greater workload...

Brumbies vs Rebels Rnd 8 Super Rugby 2012

Agree totally. Blake's scrummaging was appalling. Weeks was not much better. Rebels should go and spend money on some front rowers as a top priority. Cant believe Daley gets so much positive press. He is an awful scrummager as well.

    2012 IRB Junior World Championship

Agree. Browning is being considered as a LHP. But given that he has never played it before (at any level) Anthony Eddie and Nucifora must be kidding themselves. A continuation of Australia's infatuation with playing backrowers as props.

    2012 IRB Junior World Championship

Both poor scrummagers. But doesntt seem to be an issue in these selections or at super 15 level for that matter. England, NZ and SA are going to have great scrums as evidenced by some young front rowers playing S15 and from the England U18s last year. If we are seriously trying to win this thing...

    Sydney Colts 2012

Hope wests dont just rely on size, again. They need to develp a more complete style of play. They have had big blokes in colts and grade for years with limited success

    Shute Shield 2012

Apparently the top ovals were pretty muddy from the rain and the ground keeper wanted to save the bottom oval. Trial against uni this week is meant to be on main oval as long as we dont get much rain

    Waratahs vs Sharks - RD5 2012

Maybe, but has anyone noticed how slow and weak Sarels pass is - particularly left to right. Uses the pendulum approach which is now out of favour. I was pleasantly surprised by McKibbon as I didnt think he was up to it. But I do now. I think you will find that they will persist with him with...

    Waratahs 2012

As a long time Tahs supporter, I despair. While there are plenty of injuries - it is the way they play that bugs me. Aimless kicking, unwillingness to take on the opposition for more than a phase or two before kicking the ball away. Kicking it away when in the oppositioni 22, kicking it away...

    2012 IRB Junior World Championship

Mathew White played first grade colts for Eastwood. Big strong second rower - had a very good year. I believe he has gone to Norths this year to play grade.

    Sydney Colts 2012

Uni in the early to mid nineties were a disaster and close to a laughing stock of the Shute Shield that they got the act together and established a strong foundation should be applauded. I think you will find that the rest of the Shute Shield teams actually bailed them out initially.

    Waratahs 2012

Just read in the SMH that Tahs spent a great deal of time yesterday practicing their kick chase. As Foley says "If we are to kick the ball it is with the definite understanding and purpose to get the ball back". I agree with Spiros last week when he said this idea of Foley's is "oxymoronic"...

The Wallabies at the end of 2011

Kepu is a bit of the exception as he is relatively new to the position and so didnt really know what he was - but from what I have seen he is a THP only - and showing promise. Perhaps you are correct Lee and the selectors are behind the swapping of side by props - if so it reflects a lack of...

The Wallabies at the end of 2011

I am not a fan of props swapping and changing between LHP and THP. They are two very different positions requiring different strengths and techniques. Very few props can do it effectively. There may be a view amongst players that if you put your hand up as both there is a better chance of being...
