    Shute Shield 2014

It was shameful that the rats went uncontested - none of their second grade props got injured in the previous game and the big fella they brought on at LHP and then got injured looked like voluntary substitution - the starting LHP looked pissed off that he was being subbed in the first half of...

    Sydney Colts - 2014

The thing I like about rugby is that it reveals character – of players, coaches and clubs. On saturday I watched Penrith colts play Eastwood and unfortunately the lack of character of the Penrith Club, its players, coaches and supporters was plain to see. Four or five yellow cards in second...

    Sharks v Tahs, round 7 2014

Tahs were playing like Cheika used to - wired and niggly. I don't think it works or is a good look. At the end of the day they weren't good enough. Nothing going on in that backline to trouble anyone. Also found out our lack of depth in front row. Paddy Ryan packed 5 scrums, gave away 3...

    National Rugby Championship 2014

Does anyone else have a problem with the Sydney clubs (many of which are financially suspect) having to fund the Sydney based NRC teams (including a gratuitous payment to the ARU to help them with their financial predicament) whereas all other teams are funded by the ARU/State Franchises. Seems...

ARU moves to kill off club player payments: A 3rd tier, club rugby and the $60k persuader

I recommend people read the article at the following link. It is an excellent summary by Nev Shooter, President of Southern Districts, of Pulver's plans and why they are opposed by the Sydney Rugby Union as well as the issue of Sydney University...

    Shute Shield 2013

I seem to recall that their were two comps - the first round (with no Super 12 players) culminated in the playing of the Shute shield Grand Final with the Rats winning. THe comp then continued, I think as the TOoheys Cup or something similar, with Super 12 players in it, which was won by Uni

    Shute Shield 2013

Jared Barry was outstanding in attack and defence.

    Shute Shield 2013

Snowden and McCaffrey are no longer contracted to the force. The Honey Badger was coming back from wallabies camp - apparently. Allcock and Longbottom keen to play for the woodies but not allowed to. Foley is a joke.

    Shute Shield 2013

Robbo did well, and played well around the field. But eastwood scrum was under pressure and got penalised a number of times in the second half - some decisions a bit baffling. But I rate the Southern Scrum - it is one of the best - big front row and enormous second rowers.

    Shute Shield 2013

I watched the woods v southern game live and the Manly game on TV and enjoyed both games. Defence was brutal. I think the key to beating uni is playing rugby for the whole game and not getting defensive. Any turnover ball you get you have to use. Kicking it back is not an option. The kick...

    Waratahs 2014

Don't think the new rules aim to delete the hit altogether - just reduce it.

    Waratahs 2014

I suggest you ask John Manneti (the Woods Coach) and if you do you will find out that you are wrong.

    Waratahs 2014

Your missing the point. A big part of the advantage of a large prop - the hit is diminished under the new laws. Don't take my word for it - refer to BLadesy's analysis somewhere on this website.

    Waratahs 2014

Disagree. I suspect that new scrum laws will do the opposite - see BLades comments the other day. Large props and hookers who gained an advantage from trailing after the engagement will now have to actually use more technique as they will be starting the context from a more stationary position.

    Waratahs 2014

You've obviously never watched roach play. He is amazing in collisions. People just cant tackle him. Have watched him since school and he never ceases to amaze me. He is so good that when Damien Fitz came back to Eastwood instead of putting him back to 2nds the coach kept him in firsts, out of...

    Shute Shield 2013

Agree re many of the calls being totally unnecessary. Refs seem to be looking for a reason to blow a free kick rather than seeing if there is a reason not to.

    Shute Shield 2013

You must have heard it from the referee himself! The referee in question may be a Super Referee but I have watched him at SS level on many occasions and consider him to be poor- particularly at scrums. It needs to be remembered that each pack normally weighs upward of 850kg. Timing engagement...

    Shute Shield 2013

Am concerned at the SS referees rulings at scrum time. Following the international trend, the first scrum in every match is now a free kick for early engagement. At the Woods v Parra game last week the ref took this scrum farce to a new level - awarding free kicks on both the first and second...

    Waratahs V Reds July 13 2013

I thought QUade was ordinary and I am concerned that if his first game back is against the ABs, who have completely mind f**cked him, he may never recover. It will be interested to see McKenzies's selections for the first test- could be a defining moment for him as a coach. Re Berrick - well...
