I'm not advocating for the abolition of the structure. It still serves a purpose. My argument is that the Shute Shield clubs need to develop their own business plans in order to become self sufficient. They have a conduit in the form of the Ch7 deal to do so and need to collectively work...

I think the measurement is fairly simple. What's the % increase on kids playing regular Rugby (not 2 or 3 games, not a knockout tournament but organised week in, week out Rugby) year on year. In a given area for it to be deemed adequate it would have to double what the area's growth rate is for...

If you're talking about bang for your buck in regards to the ARU then it's pouring money into structures that will leading to more kids playing the game. Which then leads to more fans and hopefully greater bargaining power when it comes to sponsors and broadcasters. I admire Dave's passion for...

I suspected they would have had something but yeah, I think what's needed is a comprehensive resource that's open to all.

Something else the ARU or someone/group should look at doing is developing an online platform that provides guidance on the laws, how to guides in setting up and administering junior clubs with links, a streamlined certification system for coaching and refereeing and instructional video ideally...

The problem is he's only talking about Shute Shield clubs. Which again are the minority. I have very little sympathy for Papworth and Co. The ARU need to be using their resources to grow the game at the base to ensure the future just giving the 'clubs' money won't achieve any of this. They only...

Is that annually or a once off? Anyway, I would suggest a sizeable chunk of those funds go toward establishing more schools competitions in the region. Its the best place to reach as many kids as possible. Outside private schools weekly schools sport particularly at the primary level has...

    What is GRASSROOTS?

For me grassroots is the village clubs, subbies and schools. I know others may argue the grade clubs are but the majoroty of the games base exist outside them. If we want the game to flourish we need more people playing the game at the levels above.

    Ideas for NRC

That's great and all but what about late bloomers? The kid at 16/17 could be a very different player at 21/22 or 23. There needs to be a conduit for these guys as well.

ARU Junior Gold Cup - National Junior Championships

For those who have been at the games from what you have seen so far has the standards of the JGC risen beyond the first two seasons?

    Ideas for NRC

I still think getting them into the Shute Shield would just as effective as a scholarship set up. It would give a greater number of players the opportunity to develop and gain exposure. You don't have to worry about housing or accomodation just fares in and out of both Sydney and Adelaide. With...

    Ideas for NRC

You've just described the model used in many of the world's biggest leagues. Some not so big ones as well.

When's Bill's contract due for renewal? Installing Chieks as Wobs coach, a boost in TV rights, the NRC, the JGC and now not only achnowledgement but apparent sincerity in addressing the neglect that has been Western Sydney. I've got to say. He's done a bloody good job and deserves another term.

    Ideas for NRC

That's why I'd prefer to see a Blackfalcons squad enter say the Shute. They could then use players from their local structures. How I would approach it would be like this. Get them in the Shute from 2017. Guarantee them for four seasons leading to the next set of negotiations. Hopefully, by then...

    Ideas for NRC

Are you talking about a team in the NRC or Club Rugby? Because at this present time while I support more opportunity for players I seriously doubt Adelaide could present a competitive locallt sourced NRC squad. I think giving them some time to develop in the likes of the Shute Shield, Brisbane...

    Ideas for NRC

I actually like the idea of an Adelaide team popping up in the likes of the Shute Shield. Provided they could find the money. I think considering the size of the Rugby community in Adelaide .i.e. number of teams etc. that would be a good level for them to compete at. It would also make for a...

Mate, the Stars may have gone but the Rams are still charging along. We could do with new fans. Why not jump aboard and see where it leads you.

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

Yes, but the NBL isn't a big ratings winner and they have games on FTA. What might be necessary is essentially doing something similar to what the Shute Shield did with its season this year. Produce the broadcast via a partner and supply it directly to a FTA channel. Look to recoup much of...

    Ideas for NRC

So they're going to essentially a Wicks/Easts/Uni alignment. Like they really should have done from day one. Hopefully they continue to run under the NSW Country banner and continue taking games to the country.

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

Seven had the Super Bowl across all three of their channels.
