New Zealand v Wallabies, Eden Park, Sat 22nd October

The ABs exploit weakness better than anyone and we still have one glaring weakness which will mean we lose. Other teams in TRC haven't been good enough to exploit it. We have 4 players in the backs that we need to hide, and there's only three spots where you can do it. So whichever of Foley...

Pumas vs Wallabies - Sunday 9th October @ Twickenham

If he keeps up the way he's going Coleman will have destroyed all yellow card records before him anyway! ;)

Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

For those interested - here is how the ARU have set up the departments within the organisation. Does the administrative expenses which fall under the General Manager - Rugby Participation, come under participation or corporate? I have no idea Does the administrative expenses which fall...

Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

The $18 m is a once every 4 years thing for the WC, qh. Some revenue sharing but also in theory it includes compensation for the loss of our games due to the tournament being held during our test window. Check the notes section a few pages in for more details At the time the annual report was...

Pumas vs Wallabies - Sunday 9th October @ Twickenham

For the record, Timani: 14 tackles - easily topped the tackle stats. 4 carries for 0m 0 lineouts 2 penalites conceded Decent effort - with lots of improvement to come

Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

Nah QH, he is saying spending on grass roots is the investment. After all, development officers aren't the game of rugby. But they are effictively what grass roots spending means

Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

The participation stuff is indeed a joke. I wish they still publish the senior Male player etc stats like they did prior to 2014. They have the stats. The obvious excuse is that everybody else does it too, and funding is based on participation so we jump in the double/triple count train. As...

Pumas vs Wallabies - Sunday 9th October @ Twickenham

45,000 tickets sold for this one already. The gbp ain't what it used to be but still should be a nice earner for the UAR.

Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

The numbers aren't right - or at least haven't been presented in context. All they did was take the line item in the ARU accounts for "community Rugby" and divide it by the total. Among other things, this ignores some of the most basic spend - the distribution to the member unions (eg where is...

Carter, Rokocoko , Inhoff - Corticosteroid Use (Allegedly)

Champions Cup final was 14 May, so the testing was done 6 weeks later. Carter returned to the team after the injury for the quarter final on 11 June.

Pumas vs Wallabies - Sunday 9th October @ Twickenham

8 games in 10 weeks to be played by this team. There will be lots of players rested and others tried over the next couple of months. Players aren't getting dropped - it's squad members getting a run to see how they go
  13. Strewthcobber

Pumas vs Wallabies - Sunday 9th October @ Twickenham

He went off for a concussion test didn't he? but think he passed it and just wasn't brought back on. Rather than "dropped", I reckon he's been rotated out - having said that I bet Cheika hopes this combo works out. It makes life a lot easier for him

Pumas vs Wallabies - Sunday 9th October @ Twickenham

Fardy is the guy who would replace Hooper if he was injured tomorrow isn't he? Which is probably why he is still in the squad

Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

You just have to look at the smouldering husk that was once the NBL to see how a sport can essentially disappear despite having plenty of participation, relative international success, production of elite talent and even free to air coverage. National comps don't automatically equal success...

Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

Any idea how much tax payer money, national broadcaster subsidy and personal investment from Frank Lowy and the other investors in the a-league clubs has been spent to date? Would give us some idea as to how many hundred millions of dollars would be required to set up something similar. Their...

Pumas vs Wallabies - Sunday 9th October @ Twickenham

goalkickers.co.za measured those kicks of Hodge at 51m - that's well beyond any kick that Foley has ever made. His max distance according to the website is 46m, and his accuraccy beyond around 37/38 is pretty low comparitvely. Even at altitude (which makes around 10% difference apparently)...

$50 min to watch the rugby - so about what it costs now?

Man, I clearly need to spend more than 2 seconds at a time doing this. Will correct after lunchtime meeting! Forcefan - your mantle as top stats man remains undisputed!
