    Rugby News from unexpected places

Not Rugby but still interesting. I spent a few evenings in Amsterdam in 2005. On my last night my friends and I entered a bar only for me to be stopped by two locals asking if I liked Cricket. Upon answering in the affirmative they introduced themselves and then told me they were members of the...

They are also running a state championships of sorts for the different Island communities as part of their game days. Teams representing Fiji, Tonga and Samoa as well as a NSW Maori side. NSW Tonga will even play an ACT Tonga team.

    Australian Women's Sevens Team

Cheers. Looks like a solid set up. Something that could be replicated quite easily right across the country. I might write something up using it as the template and post it on The Roar. That and my review of the inaugural PRO Rugby season.

The junior 7s structure that involved 6 weeks of competition plus finals.

    NZ Domestic Rugby Competitions 2016

Just finished watching a breakdown of the new law variations. I remember reading that there was some level of anxiety around them or somewhat. They don't seem too revolutionary. Might speed the game up a bit.

You wouldn't have the link to the 7s set up you've mentioned previously, would you?

    Rugby 7s general chat

When you break it down it really isn't a great deal of money for the women's or 7s side of it. Not unless the T14 clubs provide a fair share of their own funding. From what I've read most of it will be directed toward the 3rd professional tier as a means of providing the T14's youth teams with...

Much of that money will go to establishing a 3rd division of professional rugby. The tweet I saw did mention the establishment of a 7s league.

Might have something to do with Rio going nuts with the pricing.

    Rio Olympics

Some numbers are beginning to trockle in regarding viewing. A little over 2.4m Germans tuned into the Sevens final a 24% share. The game was broadcast live between 12-12:30am. The quarter finals and semi's averaged 3.25m or a 25.1% share. In Spain the final drew 400k which actually was the...

The author actually makes note that something like this would be subject to a feasibility study. Sure, it would be difficult but I still think that at the very least it's worth exploring.

    Rugby 7s general chat

The only place you would likely source marquees is from the WS circuit. For a number of reasons. First, they are 7s specialists who train specifically for it. Secondly, most notably they'd likely come with less of a price tag than national team or Super Rugby players. Finally, while yes they may be in...

    Rugby 7s general chat

A month long pre-season isn't good enough. I agree but many of the Wallabies squad come back after the Christmas break which would only give that time period at present anyway. I think you're getting caught up on the current talent pool a little bit too much here. Look at the women's squad. Many...

    Rugby 7s general chat

From the article I've read on The Roar each team would essentially have two byes each which means there would only be 6 games an evening. As for the financials. I'm not the one behind the article and it is a difficult question to answer. But in the next year or so we have the best possible...
