    Rumours...

It was just a suggestion regarding ways to better engage and pay homage to the Islands that have benefitted Rugby in both Australia and New Zealand.

    Rugby 7s general chat

Yes, at the 15 man game. I wouldn't argue that they are the best players in the country. But that doesn't necessarily translate to 7s. As I've already mentioned, how many people outside of established Cricket fans would have an idea of who the BBL marquees are? Considering new fans make up a...

    Rugby 7s general chat

Most of the Wallabies players tend not to return to pre-season training until January anyway. You're looking at a fairly narrow talent pool to fill the squads. One that considering the doesn't necessarily ensure the high quality anyway. How many of the 15s guys that tried for the Olympics made...

But who are the best players in the country? Evidence suggests that in terms of 7s that doesn't necessarily mean it's the 15s guys. Also, as I suggest in my post above. The BBL operates with little to no involvement from the Test squad. Unless you're a Cricket fan to begin with you'll likely...

    Rugby 7s general chat

Welll, the article provides a window in November for it to be run and won over a 20 day period. If you start it on October 31st it would have run its course by November 20th. As for as I am aware, November isn't a holiday month anywhere in Australia. Not that it matters. The BBL runs over 8...

    Does it matter?

    Rugby 7s general chat

Perhaps. I also don't see an issue with combining both the 5 Aus and NZ Super Rugby franchises for a 10 team league. They'd have to extend it a little from 20 to 30 days but would that be so bad? My reasoning for going with the Super Rugby franchises is the tie-in opportunities it could present with Super Rugby proper...

An interesting an extensively thought out piece from The Roar. http://www.theroar.com.au/2016/08/15/the-wrap-introducing-rugby-sevens-smash/

Could always go with the current 5 Super Rugby franchises plus at least a Fijian and Samoan squad. Perhaps even Tonga. PNG? Call in the 'Pacific Super 7s'.

You'd only need to have the nationals televised at a minimum. I think that it could potentially be a saleable event to a TV station. Beyond that, you would look to stream the state championship tournament.

It would be a purely domestic competition. You go with the current 5 plus a 'baabaas' like squad to bring it to six. Could either base it in either Queensland or Western Sydney. Considering the Rams have done a bit of work with 7s I'd be inclined to give it to them. Each franchise hosts a...

We need to capitalise on the momentum gained from the games in terms of commercially. I honestly doubt going the club route will achieve this. We need to present a viable commercial product. As P.Tah suggests this could be achieved via the use of existing professional structures such as the Super Rugby...

    Rugby 7s general chat

I agree. That's why I favour the 6 team format more so than anything else. Use the current Super Rugby franchises and add one for balance. Professional structures to build off. Though, I wouldn't just stop at men's. If we do it. We have to include the women's side of the game. They deserve it.

Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

Personally, I think Clubs have far too narrow an appeal for them to form a sustainable competition. That and you want to present an elite product. That means a less is more approach. Each and every club would want to be involved and you run the risk of diluting the quality by talent being spread...

    Perth Spirit News

According to a post on the NRC fb page all Spirit games will be free to enter this season. No excuses not to 'fill the hill'.

That's the potential opportunity in developing these new competitions would present. The opportunity to break out of the Pay platform and approach the wider market. Being outside of the current media rights and everything. Could even do something similar to what the Shute Shield has done in...

Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

At the elite level. Yeah, sure. But the beauty of Sevens is that it can be played by practically everyone. You just need to tailor the competition format to fit. You could run several 'divisons' to suit all shapes and sizes. You could for example have three divisions. Lightweight, Opens and...

Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

Something like that would work. Except to ensure you keep within a 3 hour window and involve the women's side of it you would have to reduce the number of teams to 6 each. Which isn't a bad idea. Could structure the teams one of two ones. Use the Super Rugby franchises. Add in either a Western Sydney or...

Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

That was one of the major issues people have had with the 12 minute quarters that were trialed by United World Sports in the US. The first half held up fine but as fatigue kicked in even with the unlimited interchange things got a lot more sloppy and the scores ramped up. Sort of why I...

Canberra Vikings - Offical NRC Team Thread

Wouldn't be surprising if Alcock was announced in the Rams squad. Played with them invthe first NRC season. I'm sort of hoping its where Godwin pops up as well. He's not on any other lists from what I can tell.
