Not quite a global season but progress nonetheless.

No mid-year tests after a world cup year either, or has that idea fallen by the wayside?

    Where to for Super Rugby?

    Looking at the ratings for last year (maybe a proxy for crowds?) OZ v OZ - 72k NZ v NZ - 64k OZ v NZ - 62k NZ v Oz - 55k Oz v SA - 46k NZ v SA - 41k

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Got to have a lead-in game for those Force games. When they are out there by themselves late on a Friday or Saturday night the ratings are almost uniformly terrible. When there's a game on before they can be quite good

    The League Media

I relatively recently moved to Sydney, work's based in the west and am watching way more league than I used to (previously it was pretty much just Broncos) because it's the best way to have conversations with so many people around the office. It's the soup opera of choice out here. I have...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Sticking with 17 rounds of competition with 2 byes and 8 teams in sudden death finals over 3 weeks, you'd get 10 weeks of home and away, 2 games against one other conference and 3 against the other. Top 2 from each conference make the finals + next best 2, ranked by points, then 1v8, 2v7 etc

    Waratahs 2017

Yep - it's got to the point where Olympic boxers don't wear headgear anymore because they actually increased concussion Anyway, sorry for the thread derail. Any news on when Foley might be back, or is it an indefinite kind of thing?

    Waratahs 2017

How many head knocks has he had? Is this a cumulative thing or from one big knock? We really need to think about how we handle our inside backs in this country/sport. Way too many early retirements from those concussions.

The Difference Between Kiwi and Aussie/Saffer Teams

Why don't our systems produce decent 10s? In just about every position we've managed to develop players that would make the ABs at one stage or another. At some positions (maybe 9?) we've maybe even generally had better players than them. There hasn't been a key playmaker come through...

The Difference Between Kiwi and Aussie/Saffer Teams

We run into the same problem with coaches as we do with players. There's more money and much more opportunity coaching other sports. Sure there's the Wallabies as a lure, but Link, Dingo, Jones, Smith (RIP) haven't exactly left with adulation. There might be glory there, but would you bet your...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

I've watched 4 games so far this year, the skill level in all 4 games has been rubbish, and they have just not been entertaining. All the talk around competition structure is pretty much irrelevant as long as the games continue to be as ordinary as they are now, and have been for too long...

    A great game of rugby.

Certainly more is invested (by other fee paying parents) in the first XV than just about any other team any non-pro will ever play for

    Refereeing decisions

You should be allowed back on at any stoppage where the ref would allow a substitution, so quick lineouts - no. Lineouts - maybe. Scrums - probably. The team with the ball in all of these cases is going to get more leeway.

    Refereeing decisions

Short answer is it's based on game time, so if your carded at 36mins and 5 mins of extra time is played (no stoppage to end the half) you should be starting the second half. It's not always that simple though as you're only allowed back on at a stoppage so you may be off for much longer than 10...

Half doesn't pick up the ball. Flyhalf runs towards the ball to play it, but opposition is in the way
