    Rugby News from unexpected places

At first, yeah, it would be semi-professional. The goal should be to cover all the costs of participating and then look to other means to pay players. Ideally, something very similar to the 'Own the Force' initiative could be used to generate the necessary capital to cover the costs. There does...

    Shute Shield 2017

Could you send your thoughts to the club presidents. They make a great deal more sense than the current plan. Double headers, evening games etc. would all make starting earlier feasible.

    Shute Shield 2017

I'm not actually against reverting back to 22 rounds. Just the timing. I cannot see why they couldn't start the season 4 weeks earlier as not to conflict with the NRC. The arguments I've had so far essentially comes down to ground availability. Which could be addressed with scheduling. The...

    Rugby News from unexpected places

Back in 2014 USA Rugby ran an Elite City 7s tournament to determine who would go to the World Club 7s that year. Now, while USA Rugby cannot run it their commercial wing RIM can. The beauty of the set up is that it involved 12 centres split east and west. This would cut down on travel. Teams...

    Rugby News from unexpected places

SANZAAR would have to deal with RIM or UWS instead of USA Rugby in a commercial venture such as a professional competition. USA Rugby as a NGB aren't actually permitted under US law to run or administer professional sporting leagues. But, I largely agree with you. I have been of the opinion...

    Shute Shield 2017

But wasn't the rationale behind the move to 16 rounds in 2012 about addressing the competitive games issue. The idea being everyone would play each other once for 11 rounds and then split in two groups of 6 teams each for the next 5 rounds.

    Shute Shield 2017

Why the need to move to a full 22 round schedule now compared to when they cut it 16 rounds in 2012 before going to the current 18 in 2013? Saying that, I do agree if they feel that it is a must then why not start it 4 weeks earlier. Ground availability will be an issue for four of the clubs...

    Rugby News from unexpected places

It has been suggested that PRO may be trying to use this move as leverage to extend the timeframe on the sanctioining condition of their target of 'national' competition. Who know's but it fairly high stakes as they run the risk of eroding a lot of the goodwill held toward them.

Out of WA and has been officiating in the NRC since its first season.

    Rugby News from unexpected places

PRO Rugby may be dead in the water. Though they are claiming otherwise on their social media accounts. http://www.thisisamericanrugby.com/2016/12/pro-rugby-terminates-all-players.html#comment-form Is this the end pf professional Rugby in Nth America? No, just for now.

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

Apparently there's international rights still to be negotiated but considering the A-League would be way down that list they'll be lucky to get past $65m in all. Despeite the talk interest from FTA channels appears to be minimal as they have all made it clear that its the BBL they are currently...

ARU Junior Gold Cup - National Junior Championships

So it would be fair to assume Qld will be supplying three as well. So that would make 6 of the 10. Add Vic, ACT and WA for nine. Does this means SA will still be competing. That's good. With the reduction in teams it would be great if they could find the money to have this played during the...

    Rugby News from unexpected places

Well, it's not like the bloke behind it is short a dollar. He's a lot closer to being a billionaire than any of us are or likely will ever be. But, there has been a lot of talk in the background regarding both late and non-payment of players, staff and facilities.

    Rugby News from unexpected places

Those aren't rumours. PRO has even gone as far as to label several clubs as non-cooperative and block players from playing for them. Though with the nixing of the SF Rush at least a couple of them will see those players return.

    Rugby News from unexpected places

PRO Rugby has folded their San Francisco franchise citing lack of access to appropriate facilities. The stadium they used in their 1st season (Boxer Stadium) was to be honest a dump. Another negative piece of news from the organisation. Also been hearing murmurs about late payments etc. whicj...

    Shute Shield 2017

Never suggested you'd jump from the current system to that from one season to the next. You work toward to its as part of an extended startegic plan.

    Shute Shield 2017

Well, the idea of having only x number of super clubs is that when say Easts play Randwick the entire club players them.

    Shute Shield 2017

I actually think that's a much better model than what we have here in Sydney. Certainly for the Shute Shield clubs. I personally wouldn't be all that fussed if we only had 12-16 or so actual 'clubs' but each had thousands of active members with 1000s of juniors each.

    Rugby News from unexpected places

Well, Marty Banks was able to make the jump after playing Russia. Cripps should be able to do similar.
