Fulltime domestic Women's Sevens Competition from 2017

Would be interested in seeing if as part of this commitment will they be offering accommodation etc. alongside entry concessions for athletes. I actually think this model should be looked at seriously by the ARU to be expanded beyond just 7s.

Fulltime domestic Women's Sevens Competition from 2017

I think it would be fairly predictable to say Sydney Uni will likely be one plus at least another NSW Uni.

Fulltime domestic Women's Sevens Competition from 2017

Hopefully this means we will see more details soon.

ARU Junior Gold Cup - National Junior Championships

If upskilling is the overall goal then perhaps a structure such as the JGC should be scrapped in favour of a similar structure Quick Hands highlighted that is used by Hockey Australia. Hockey Australia run a program open to all players regardless of ability that provides them with exposure to...

ARU Junior Gold Cup - National Junior Championships

If you're looking to avoid picking winners then perhaps representative Rugby shouldn't be an option until U17s and up. Otherwise the very nature of representative Rugby does often see a number of kids feature every year. My experience is even as young as 15 many crave the opportunity to play...

ARU Junior Gold Cup - National Junior Championships

It's not about picking winners. Perhaps it's different to when I was 15 but something that was hugely frustrating for many of the guys I played reps with was the huge build up (we often ran trials in November and trained through to the Championships in May) for 4 or 5 games over a course of a...

ARU Junior Gold Cup - National Junior Championships

The article mentions it running for 5 weeks. Which frankly considering that they've reduced numbers to just 10 I would like them to find a way of getting each team to play one another for a full round of games. Make it a proper representative season.

    NRC onwards and upwards

I don't know. I'd like to get the players and franchises take on the idea of pushing the NRC back. I actually think it could be a reasonably alternative to the trudgery of pre-season. Players train and develop match fitness earlier etc. It also may help in providing the NRC with a little more...

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

I also think such a proposal as this could be presented to the likes of Alisports as they look to establish both mens and womens leagues in the 7s and 15s format. A 'Super' Sevens Smash with the 5 Aus franchises plus Hong Kong, the Sunwolves and a Chinese mainland squad to start in both mens and...

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

Watching the Nationals recently I actually think you'd be surprised with how much talent is available in the womens game at present. They could easily do four and probably 6 fairly competitive squads.

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

Probably vould work with 6 mens and 4 womens. But ideally if you were to go with 6 mens teams would go for 6 womens as well.

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

Well, the link calls for seven minute halves. I was just suggesting 10 minutes for the sake of competition as players would only be playing a single game an evening.

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

Under the proposal teams would only be playing one game a night. Eight mens and 8 womens squads. Four mens games and four womens games. For a total of 8 games in the 3 hour block.

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

http://www.theroar.com.au/2016/08/15/the-wrap-introducing-rugby-sevens-smash/ Something like this might fit the bill. Short, sharp with lots of action. It even allows for use of either Super Rugby or NRC franchises and gives both the mens and womens competitions equal billing. Eight games each...

    Shute Shield 2017

Dave, don't do a Matt Burke. It's not helpful and unnecessarily defensive. I've been an avid fan of the competition for as long as I can remember. So much so that even when living interstate I would regularly watch the iView replay an keep track of the goings on. While it has been a few years...

    Shute Shield 2017

You can reframe it all you want. But it doesn't change the fact that they've left the number of rounds the same (again according to the schedule on the previous page) while moving it back in order to conflict with the NRC.

    Shute Shield 2017

Mate, if that schedule is correct they've moved it back from the mid March start to April 1st without expanding the number of rounds. Grounds weren't an issue this season starting mid March and I doubt it would have next season. There's no reason for it to clash but for those compiling the...

    Shute Shield 2017

So it's only 18 rounds but moved back. GF to directly conflict with the start of the NRC as it currently stands. Come on. How can anyone say this isn't an attempt to intentionally disrupt the NRC with that schedule? If I were a player who is looking to move forward with their career I'd be...

    Shute Shield 2017

Because it's the Shute Shield that are altering the calendar. While yes, it can be argued that the SS moved their season forward for the NRC it didn't involved the subtraction of any actual rounds.

    Rugby News from unexpected places

Divising a sustainable financial model will be the trick. From what I can tell it would cost around $2.5m to run the league in terms of travel (using budget flights, accommodation, meals) and ground hire (small venues with 5k seats or so). As I mentioned above, I wonder if a similar...
