Last season was that ideal world.

    Australian Rugby Development Centre

You'd imagine once completed it would become the base facility for boththe Mens and Womens 7s squads. Alongside the Wallabies who'll use it for some 5 months of the year that would be its intended use.

Sort of my thinking. Would be good for their development. Give them a taste of what is needed to step up and provide us a gauge on our overall depth.

Would have been great if all the Aus Super Rugby franchises played them BaaBaas leading into the season.

Pretty sure that deal has at best stalled at worst is dead in the water.

Fulltime domestic Women's Sevens Competition from 2017

I think the inclusion of UTas is a strong indicator that those Uni's involved will be competing hard in terms of recruitment and program development. Which is excellent to see. Also, if the report is true and two Sydney Uni's (I think we can all agree that Sydney is a lock and I'm hoping for...

Doubt we'll see that in PRO considering their relationship with Rugby Canada. Having said that, they do have the basic structure in Canada to form a conference in the Canadian Rugby Championship. It currently has 4 teams in the BC Bears, Prairie Wolfpack, Ontario Blues and Atlantic Rock. They...

    Rugby News from unexpected places

Yeah, I have actually suggested ten teams 5 East and 5 West. Two conferences playing 8 games each to start. Top 2 progress to the playoffs. This would mean they wouldn't lose any games but run in a much more compact competition. Part of what I have been floating involves each team running...

    Rugby News from unexpected places

After all the angst that has followed PRO Rugby over the past couple of months signs of perhaps it not being dead just yet have emerged as players were apparently informed that the preseason for season 2 will kick off in April. According to the source PRO has been undergoing a restructure and...

Fulltime domestic Women's Sevens Competition from 2017

Could be just two from NSW with Canberra, Melbourne and UWA. Either that or 3 from NSW and possibly no Canberra.

Fulltime domestic Women's Sevens Competition from 2017

That's really great to read. Setting up solid foundations below it to ensure success at the fop. Hopefully the other 7 Uni's (actually, I'd hope every Uni that entered EOI's to compete do likewise as a signal of their intent) look to do likewise.

No, they do have a team in the third tier competition. They are represented by their reigning champions El Salvador Silverstorm. They actually just won the Copa Iberica against the Portugese equivalent. Chile have qualified for the Las Vegas, Vancouver and Hong Kong legs of the World Series.

    Shute Shield 2017

Another option is remove the Elite bracket and let clubs enter teams in the Opens category. Again, the point is participation. Keeping players engaged.

    Shute Shield 2017

I've found there tends to be little actual overlap of 7s and 15s players in general.

    Shute Shield 2017

My issue is that I don't see the need to have moved the start of the season back a fortnight nor introduce a bye round if they were just going to keep the current 18 round structure. Even if they wanted a bye round, fine, but why move the start back. It only creates conflict. Also, why are...

    Shute Shield 2017

Participation is the biggest key to the overall health of all levels of the game. Something that according to the Australian Sports Commission the ARU under Pulver has begun to actually address.

    Shute Shield 2017

I'd never dispute the role the clubs play in the identification and development of talent within the pathway. It provides a place for young guys to learn their craft and also allows late bloomers to emerge. It's plays an important role. But, there are those within the structure that need...

    Shute Shield 2017

Or could it be that the man at the top recognises the need to provide players more opportunity to develop by playing a higher standard of Rugby than the clubs can reasonably provide.

    Shute Shield 2017

Read what I wrote not what you want to see. I never said the Stars were primarily funded by Balmain. I said they were brought in to help out with the funding side. It could have been a 50/50 split or an arrange, ent were Balmain foot the bill and Uni the talent. Who knows. Rugbyfuture who...

    Shute Shield 2017

Randwick and Easts invested precisely $0 dollars in the Eagles both in its first season and the two that have followed since. Their partnership only goes as far as acting as feeder clubs. Pretty similar arrangement with the three clubs attached to the Rams. While both Penrith and Eastwood...
