    Wallabies 2019 Thread

I reckon Valetini will be included in the RC squad and Cheika will see if he can get him up to speed. Very impressive youngster who hasn’t been able to push his case due to injury, Wallaby tourist & Cheika has shown previously he is prepared to pick a youngster if he thinks he is good enough.

At least if he was made PM he would probably get knifed within a year or two

Again - we should be trying to do both. Kerevi has been superman for us this year - even more impressive when you watch that teams are consistently trying to double team him to nullify him. All those guys listed are great young prospects and keeping them is important too. Not one of them is...

I believe it was Wood, who I understand likes a bit of lip too. But it really did seem pretty minor to me.

On a seperate note, how good is it to watch a 2 metre tall lock at full gallop swat away a number 10.

Waratahs v Brumbies, 7.45pm, Sat 8th June, BankWest (Parra) Stadium

I have only seen bits and pieces of the last couple of Brumbies games but I would be interested on the thoughts on Simone. From what I have seen he seems to have finally found his feet and looks to be even showing signs of a the player who could excel at this level that a lot of us hoped he...

Yeah - it’s a strange one. Certainly I would like to see some of the over the top carry on to be reigned in a bit, but it seemed pretty innocuous in this instance. I understand people being a bit gun-shy given some of the boorish behaviour that Australian sporting teams have been guilty of, but...

Some positive signs. Regardless of who makes the final cut in the wash up we have depth in positions that we haven’t had in years, particularly in the forwards. If White does indeed return it shores up our half stocks a bit. 10 remains a weak spot and 14 is probably still up for grabs but...

That may have been the case early in the piece, but over the last 15 years Qld has clearly had the better players. QLD’s dominance started with the emergence of Smith, Slater & Thurston and captured the end of Lockyer’s time who was subsequently replaced by Cronk. In that time they have also...

    World Rugby U20 Championship 2019

Very strong performance. I thought Ireland did very well too given that had 14 men for most of the game and a clearly depleted squad. But you can only play the opposition in front of you and the Wallabies were great in that regard. The JWs had to absorb a fair bit of pressure in the middle 30...

Waratahs v Brumbies, 7.45pm, Sat 8th June, BankWest (Parra) Stadium

And yet only 5 years ago that was exactly the formula for success. I understand teams can’t stand still, but I can’t really understand why Gibson has gone so far away from a clearly successful formula without any real evidence that it would be successful. I get that modern forward packs are...

Haha - touché Reg. Fair enough. And I have been guilt my of hyping a few of the youngsters myself. Sorry - didn’t mean to burst anyone’s bubble. It is nice to read some positivity.

    Rnd 17: Reds v Blues

All these guys look like very good youngsters and it is a great to see them coming through. But this reminds me a bit of all the talk of guys like CFS, Toua, Quirk, JJ Taulagi, Browning and no doubt quite a few others. All of whom are good players and whom have achieved plenty - but were hyped...

Yeah, but this is rugby and I can list off 4-5 ref errors that went in the favour of the Blues. It goes both ways. The Red’s got the win and that’s all it will say in the papers.

Hockings and Blythe have both been exceptional IMO. Edit: Exceptional Relative to their age/experience, but still very good otherwise

Fair enough. Certainly I will acknowledge anything I think/know is based entirely on what I have heard/read - I have no first hand knowledge of this, and, from a quick search this morning I also acknowledge both that I can’t see a specific article supporting my comment and that the commentary...

    Reds 2019

I think what he has done is broadened the base and pushed up standards. As far as I understand, whatever he did or didn’t say publicly at the start of the year in close company he was very open about the fact that his side still had a lot of shortcomings and that they were up against it, but...

Hmmm .... I thought It was widely reported that McMahon left largely because the Wallabies staff & Cheika in particular showed such little regard for his personal well being and exacerbated an injury through encouraging him to play when he should have been given time off.
