    Wallabies 2020

We’re 5 rounds in. I like to speculate about the likely Wallaby side as much as the next guy - it’s always a fun exercise and the stoushes on here always entertain (well, they do they first 1 or 2 times at least) but form to this point if the season will be virtually meaningless come selection...

    Reds 2020

I am reminded of the quote (from Ian Chappel if I recall correctly) - show me a successful test captain and I’ll show you a captain with at least two great bowlers. I don’t mean that to discard the importance of quality coaching - but even the best coaching can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s...

Disappointing game. One bright spot for me - gee Hunter Paisami can hit & stick. His tackles hurt blokes. Nice to have a guy in your back line that opposition players are going to worry about.

Guys - you need to avoid posting discussions which include the results of other games in non-match threads for 24 hours at least to give people a chance to watch them on replay without finding the score.

    I’m assuming just rotation.

Well - On that basis dropping Blyth was a mistake. :)

I liked Tuttle as a player, but he wouldn’t be in the side in front of McDermott.

I'm very happy with that team. A couple of different selections could have been made, and I would have still been happy, but I like the side overall. With regards to players left out/benched - if we take Thorn at his word about developing a squad mentality and squad depth, then players aren't...

I’m honestly not worried which of our locks start. They all have their pros cons and are all going pretty well from my viewing. My favoured pairing would still be Rodda & Salakai-Loto but both Blyth & Hockings offer plenty. Similar to the back row. I’m not sure we have a like for like...

On that sort of form, surely the Reds should be taking you as part of the match day squad and getting you a seat at both ends?

I’m not sure Daugunu’s defence is as much of an issue any more. His problem a few years ago was that he got pushed off far too easily. His power to weight is much better now.

Keen to see Daugunu back out there, but I agree - performing players should get the rewards. Plus it’ll help drive home the message to Daugunu of the cost of giving up your spot through poor discipline.

In terms of standard technique wise he was terrible, but he had his own method and was effective enough that they changed the rules to ban it. That has to count for something.

Not having a dig - but in what sense more deserving? As in they are better performed at Prem Rugby Level, they have a higher ceiling or that they work harder? Genuinely interested as I don’t have back ground on any of these guys - but I will say that based on the initial feedback here I...

    Reds v Sunwolves, Rnd 4 2020, Suncorp Stadium Feb 22 19:15

With regards to the game itself, I see three related issues for the Reds across their first 3 games - - our clearances have been inconsistent and, too often, have left us defending too close to our line - our lineout has misfired at some crucial times - our goal line defence of the driving maul...

Yes. I was at the game. (Well - I assume it was the same one, but I think it may have been a year or two later) It sucked. Edit : especially when you consider I normally only get to one game a year if I’m lucky.

If I am reading the vibe correctly it seems the general feeling is that this game is a given for the Reds and it is a matter of by how much. Gee that makes me nervous. We’ve been here too many times before. Hopefully I’m jumping at shadows. I do like the team we’ve named. Would have liked...

Get out mate. No one should feel locked in an abusive relationship. There are support groups available. There is one gathering this weekend at Suncorp.

To be fair our game plan isn’t anything like the Tahs. Adding McReight to the back row won’t materially change that.

    Reds 2020

My criticism of Thorn so far has been that I wasn’t sure there was evidence that he was a good coach from a tactical point of view. But I think we are starting to see an emergence of a smarter, more tactical game and some of the things I’ve been frustrated with in the past seem to be getting...
