Super Rugby Rnd 1 2020: Brumbies v Reds

Underestimate the Brumbies backline at peril, Adam. Essentially the same as last year minus CLL, and I seem to recall they easily topped the try scoring in the Aussie teams while being near the top in the competition overall. Even disregarding the rolling maul tries, they were still at least on...

Smoke being reported to have returned to Canberra. Hopefully will dissipate before Friday, but the heat could make proceedings very uncomfortable.

Super Rugby Rnd 1 2020: Brumbies v Reds

    Should be a hard fought match. Un-rugby like heat could turn it either way. I expect the Brumbies to look something like : 1 Sio 2 Fainga'a 3 Ala'alatoa 4 Douglas 5 Swain 6 Valetini 7 Cusack 8 Samu 9 Powell 10 Lolesio 11 Pulu 12 Simone 13 Kuridrani 14 Wright 15 Banks 16 McInerney 17 Lloyd...

Super Rugby Trial: QLD v NSW, John Ritter Oval, Dalby, QLD ; 24 Jan 7:30pm KO (local time), 8:30pm AEDT

Agree on pretty much all counts Dru. I'd just add that I think McDermott is being a little over-hyped by many Reds fans. He certainly can be a threat with ball in hand, but his decision making in the trial v the Tahs was disappointing. Often didn't seem to know what to do. Maybe just a bit of...

Almost a doppelganger for Simmons, but I disagree with your comment about [potential. Rob Simmons' potential was always to get himself selected while not being particularly effective other than as a lineout operator. HH does all that Simmo ever did and also plays well in open play. He is way...

    Waratahs 2020

I hope I didn't mislead anyone with my comment about Brown. Pilfering is not his only skill. He is also extremely good at supporting the ball carrier and securing own ball at the breakdown. He also knows what to do when in the open, witness his try with his first ever touch in Super rugby. I...

    Reds 2020

Nasser had it over Bell when they faced off in the scrum last night. Scrummaging looks to be a significant weakness for Bell.

You have made that assertion a few times FP, but look at the later part of the Brumbies/Rebels trial when Jarome Brown was on the field. He is a typical pilferer type of No 7 and won quite a bit of turnover ball or at least slowed down the Rebels delivery. There is a place for a ball winning No...

If your contention is correct Jagman, then I would estimate the Saffas have only sufficient players to put together one Super side. We are not so badly off as most on here would have us believe.

Super Rugby Trial Rebels v Brumbies 23JAN20 Greenfield Park Albury 345pm

Think he threw the pass to put Neville in for a try. Otherwise, didn't have much opportunity to show his wares.

Tahs scrum weak with Bell out there. Didn't really shape up at set piece in U20s; Super just a step too far.

30th minute the classic example of Rob Simmons' lack of impact around the ground. Good run up the middle by Hooper, tackled and McDermott stands over him in an effort to win the ball. Rugged Rob comes flying in, arguably from the side, to clean out Tate, who is 30kg wringing wet, misses and ends...

Apparently would be eligible after the five year qualifying period Reg, but could be tempted in the meantime to play for Tonga.

Super Rugby Trial Rebels v Brumbies 23JAN20 Greenfield Park Albury 345pm

Wouldn't get too carried away with the Brumbies based on that game. Seven-all at the break when both sides were at their strongest. The Brumbies reserves however were a big step up on the Rebels reserves. The Brumbies still have to sort out their second row, No 10 spot and the wings. While...

    Brumbies 2020

In the washup from the trial match last night, I think Keunzle overshadowed Lolesio at No 10. Pasitoa didn't get much opportunity to show his wares. I like how assured BK looks in the position. He seems to have the best vision and game management that goes with it. NL, otoh, looks more capable...

It's a mystery FP, isn't it. Brumbies this year offloaded Vunipola Fifita after he was capped in the RWC for Samoa (I think). Why can the Rebels, in particular, and now the Tahs sign players on after they've been capped elsewhere?
